Exons 2008 - Biotechnology expo organised by theBiotech Club of Sankara of Sri Sankara Senior SecondarySchool was held for two days on Nov. 3 and 4, 2008.The expo was inaugurated by Dr.Sultan Ahmed Ismail,Soil biologist, Director of Ecoscience ResearchFoundations and HOD of Biotech dept, New college,Chennai.The principal Smt.Subala Ananthanarayanan,welcomed the chief guest. Dhandapanisecretary of Sri Sankara Senior Secondary Schoolreceived the first copy of the magazine.A presentation elaborating various streams of biotechnology taken up in Exons 2008 was presented byAnanthanarayan of Class 12. Students displayed modelsand charts covering various disciplines of biotechnologylike Clinical microbiology and explained on Effect of neemon wound infections, pathogenesis of HIV, Cholera,Amoebiasis and microbial toxins.Biochemical characterisation of microbes,differentiation of bacterial cell walls, Actinomycetes werealso explained. In Immunology, topics covered weretransplantation, types of allergic reactions, protocol forplant genome DNA and Protein and DNA bands wereshown to students.

Just not a day but a whole month is devoted to childrento bring out their talents to the open.NalandaWay Foundation, a creative media NGO thatworks with low-income, marginalised children and helpthem overcome challenges to do extra-ordinary things.They are organising a children’s festival, ‘Art, arattai,aarpattam’. The event is held in partnership with UNICEFbetween November 14 and December 7, 2008.During the festival, NalandaWay children’s group willperform street plays in various parks across the city.Children mentored by the wellknown artist and artdirector Thotta Tharani will express their ideas throughart, illustrations and messages. Graffiti will be painted bychildren on the outer wall of the US Consulate, Chennaion November 29 and 30.There will be a concert by the NalandaWay Children’sMusic Band on November 15, at 7 pm. At Sir MuthaVenkatasubba Rao Concert Hall, Lady Andal Schoolpremises.
