yes E le roy Ladurie did some great work using dendrochronology in France, but did not publish till the 1980s

yes computers do help. as far as i recollect E le roy Laduri was perhaps the first historian to sneak into dendrochronology when computers were not as advanced ; yet his results on seasonal variations, indicated by the rings were originally breathtaking. all the best.
