At The Firs – 2006Our assignment for Talent Night was:® P-Fest 2006Annual Poetry, Prose, Picture ContestYes, it’s that time again, when RPs attending the Pacific Coast Presbytery Campshare their creative gifts for Talent Night.Write poetry or prose, draw or paint a picture, expressing your story or ideabased on one of the following “first lines…”.I chose…”I was amazed to find God speaking to meon this day in this way.”
I’ve included the scriptures I was thinking of when I wrote my contribution.

I am amazed  To hear God speak On this dayIn this way.I lift my eyes Expecting skies Yet with surprisenow see ariseOn fir pillars highGreen buttresses flyAnd in silence cry,“Gates! Lift your heads.Ageless doors! Lift them high.” With breathless aweFaintly I seeThe invisible glowThrough the clearly seen. The King is near.Glory draws nigh. And I am amazed  On this dayIn this way.
Psalm 24:9-10(Book of Psalms for Singing)“O gates, lift your heads!Ageless doors, lift them high! The great King of glory to enter draws nigh! This great King of glory,O who can He be?Jehovah of hosts,King of glory is He!”Romans 1:20 (NIV)“For since the creation of the world God'sinvisible qualities—his eternal power and divinenature—have been clearly seen, beingunderstood from what has been made, so thatmen are without excuse.”

I watch my friend  Pressing on,Persevering still  With courageous will  Bought by boundless grace. On and on and on and onRunning this race. And I’m amazed  To hear God speak,“You show my strengthWhen you are weak.” I hold my breath.I close my eyes.In stillness strainI hear the refrain,On and on and on and on.Pulsing of the not yet done.“I press on.” “So let us run.” And I am amazed  On this dayIn this way.
Philippians 3:12 (NIV)“Not that I have already obtained all this, or havealready been made perfect, but I press on to takehold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me. 13Brothers, I do not consider myself yet tohave taken hold of it. But one thing I do:Forgetting what is behind and straining towardwhat is ahead, 14I press on toward the goal towin the prize for which God has called meheavenward in Christ Jesus.”II Corinthians 12:9 (NIV)“But he said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness."Therefore I will boast all the more gladly aboutmy weaknesses, so that Christ's power may reston me. 10That is why, for Christ's sake, I delightin weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I amweak, then I am strong.”Hebrews 12:1 (NIV)“Therefore, since we are surrounded by such agreat cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easilyentangles, and let us run with perseverance therace marked out for us. 2Let us fix our eyes onJesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, whofor the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the righthand of the throne of God. 3Consider him whoendured such opposition from sinful men, so thatyou will not grow weary and lose heart.”
