To A Good Land
, 1966

Throughout the universeThere is aBeat,A mark of Vitality,That reflects a steady constancyOur souls long to know.*The starsStandImmoveable anchors,(yet in rhythmic time)Of StaidnessIn the vastness of space. And the symmetry of the heavensIs witness.*One star named SunStands assuranceTo nine planets.Thfourth turningToward and awayAllows Sun
s lightTo bringDay after dark And again dayIn endless processionTo this body called Earth.*

The seas of EarthChurnDay and nightAnd only the tideSeems awareOf anything more thanIts own rolling deeps. The deeps stretch onIntoHeaving surf That beatsOn rock And sand. The surf PoundsTo move on, butIs stoppedBy the mountain and beachOf land(security of Earth)For it stands stillIn midst of the ocean
sCeaseless goings.*Over the far horizonIn the gray of early dawnRisesA shadow,A man,Coming to work the land.Still in the distanceHe stops,And in one of those rare moments of Insight,Sees the magnificence of This land.*

When the sun begins to descendToward dark,The manTurns to leave,Weary,For the land is hardAnd not always obedientTo his commands. But he turns toward homeAnd because of ThisHe will come againTo wonder at his land,For at home*Are his children. This is how a manCan give himself To a time whenHeHas ceased to be;To pass onHis veryPulse beat,HisThought,Feelings,Hopes,Drives,And that in himOf which he may not be aware,But, ages henceMay be revealedIn another. So man
s spiritContinues,And this trulyIs lasting.*
