Humberside Police Lifestyle 2009
Posted byrayduff on May 8, 2009
Humberside Police have launchedLifestyle 2009.
Lifestyle – which has operated every year since 1988 –seeks to encourage a positive relationship betweenpolice and young people through encouraging active citizenship. It results inyoung people carrying out some wonderful and inspiring activities in theircommunities.Young people aged between 10 and 16 are encouraged to work in small teams tocreate community projects. Teams receive support and help to develop their ideasthrough a project handbook. An Adult Adviser has to be involved to oversee thesafe running of each project. Each team member receives a Log Book, to recordtheir progress on the teams achievements.Completed Log Books are submitted into a friendly competition with winning teamsgetting prizes and awards for their efforts. The top prize this year is a trip toFlorida to visit Disneyland and other well known theme parks.Further details are available from the Humberside Police website link highlightedabove. The first 5,000 to register will each receive a free Lifestyle 2009 T-shirtand a project pack!Posted inEast Yorkshire UK| Tagged:Humberside Police,Lifestyle 2009,young people|No Comments »

Hedon’s Mayor Councillor Mrs Ann Suggit will conduct thetown’s traditional ‘penny throwing’ service on Thursday 21stMay 2009.This traditional event is usually one of the first civic dutiescarried out by each Mayor following their annual election bythetown council. The event is supposed to be steeped in history and is aparody of the days when Hedon was considered a ‘rotton borough’ with freemenbeing offered money to vote for a particular Mayoral candidate. Nowadays theevent is designed to be a fun occasion with the pennies ‘thrown’ to local children. The penny throwing starts at 6:45pm outside the Town Hall.Posted inHedon,History,Just for fun| Tagged:Hedon,Hedon Mayor,Hedon Town Council,Hedon Town Hall,Penny Throwing|No Comments »

Whilst there are free alternatives, the Gazette is unique in its total concentrationon
LOCAL
news and sport. Towns and villages are much more connected to their ownand each other’s communities because of this publication.Local sports teams in particular benefit from Gazette coverage of local leagues, matches and commentaries. Many teams would sail ‘under the radar’ and exist inanonymity were it not for this local reportage. This blogger is a proponant of developing the online presence of local mediaoutlets and indeed theGazette’s websitecould benefit from a 21st centuryoverhaul, but there is something refreshing about picking up the Gazette eachThursday and searching for local Hedon news. The Gazette is available from most local newsagents priced 0.38 pence – supportyour local newspaper because we would miss it if it was not there!Posted inEast Yorkshire UK,Hedon| Tagged:Holderness Gazette,hyper-local news, newspaper|No Comments »
