An annual New Years celebration onMarket Hill for the families of Hedon.The beacon could be lit.”

A simple idea but one which could become areal event and focus point for Hedonresidents. In many towns and cities there arenatural meeting points where local peopleand Hogmanay visitors gather to wish eachother well and enjoy the count-down to theNew Year. So why not in Hedon? of thisyear I contacted the townclerk via email, the lateston 27

Nov, in regard to asign that I hoped would beplaced near to theKingstown Hotel, possiblyadjacent or on the Prestonsign, this would say

“Leading to the HistoricTown of Hedon”.

Why? Because I have been asked on a few occasions by people in cars near to theCoop supermarket on Hull Road the B1362, just where Hedon is; they said they wereconfused by the Preston sign, and I also know of some contractors who went downthe bypass and came into Hedon via Thorn road.

Free weekend parking until Christmas 2009

THE EAST RIDING COUNCIL

is encouraging people to shop in East Yorkshire towns byoffering free car-parking for the three weekends in the run up to Christmas. Council leader Stephen Parnaby has stated

“We hope people take advantage of thefree parking by coming to East Riding towns to do their Christmas shopping.”

Parking will be free in council-run car parks from 8:00am on Saturdays until 8am onMondays…. Fantastic! …. So we assume that free car-parking will help support local shops!? ….So surely the reverse must be true and that the stalled plans of the Council to reviewand introduce car-parking charges must NOT be in the best interests of supportinglocal shops during recession!? What do you think?

are currently rehearsing for their latest production of ALADDIN. The popular pantomime will be performed fromThursday 28th January – Saturday 30th January 2010and the Group is looking for anybody who can offer help acting, backstage or front of house.
