Decision Making: How a Single Decision Changed My Life
Making decisions and understanding the process we go through isparamount if we are to create the kind of life we want to live. By takingthe time to learn how you can make sound decisions you actually putyourself in a position to make better decisions later on.I have come to the realization that decisions and not our currentconditions define our future experiences. We all experience times of fatigue, frustration and even depression but if we
decide
to turn awayfrom those events and not give them traction in our lives we can createphenomenal results. My life changed on a specific day when I made one decision. On thatday two things happened. I chose who and what I wanted in my life butto take it a step further, I committed to it.On that night I was at home, listening to one of the first networkingseminars I had invested in, just months after starting my first homebased business. Dani Johnson was talking about decisions andcommitment when she spoke five words that set me on course. Butbefore I go into what she said, I'd like to dig into some of the meat of my thoughts, so hear we go.
Making the Decision to be Decisive
"I know of no more encouraging fact than the unquestionable ability of man to elevate his life by a conscious endeavor."

- Henry DavidThoreau
First of all, you need to be certain you're making
a committed, truedecision
. The difference is in deciding to make a commitment, then
taking thesteps to fullfill your decision
effectively cutting yourself off fromanother course of action OR do something on a whim with no realintent. In the first scenario you have no choice but to follow through,

you have clearly defined and set your sites on a particular goal andnothing will cause you to veer from that path. The second option is the more popular one. We see it in our new yearsresolutions.
This year I'm going to quit smoking.
Twenty four hours later? A month? Six months?Still smoking. Most people don't place a lot of weight on their decisions. I wouldventure to guess most people aren't even making most of thedecisions affecting their life in a conscious manner. I may not haverealized it at the time but that night as I listened to Dani, I committedto my decision to succeed with every fiber of my being. Are you letting life create events at random rather then taking controlof your own destiny? [Yes or No] This is what happens when you don't make earnest decisions with thedesigned intent to reach for the stars.
You Have Control - Take Back the Power
We are addicted to instant gratification and because of this we nolonger know how, why, nor do we want to make decisions that count. The simple truth is that people are lazy and its easier to just let cardsfall, than to play the game and effect change in our lives. You have control of the things you do and master because:
 You decide
what to focus
on.
 You decide
what things mean
to you. What are your values?
 You decide
what you will do
to create the things and/orchanges you desire. These three things define the how, why and the 'want to' respectively.Originally I was going to discuss each of them here but in order to giveeach of them the respect they deserve I'm going to break this post upinto three more parts and cover them over the course of the nextcouple weeks.Stay tuned for those articles but before I go, I promised to share thefive words which struck me to the core (I bet you thought I forgot,
