In 1908, Bishop N.A. Gallagher of Galveston invited the Paulist Fathers to begin a ministry at the University of Texas at Austin. By 1910, the Newman Club was founded as the first and only Catholic Organization on the campus of UT. In 1946, Fr. Thomas Tierney purchased the property on the corner of 21st and University Avenue. This site served as a small Catholic dormitory until the mid-1960s when a dedicated Catholic Student Center was built. In 2002, we outgrew the structure and built our current facility. The year 2008 marked our 100th year of Catholic Campus Ministry here at UT. Presently, the UCC houses everything that a Catholic student needs - a Chapel for Sunday Mass, a Blessed Sacrament Chapel for reflection and private prayer, a kitchen, a library, conference rooms, computer lab, wireless internet, and a basement student lounge. This "home away from home" will be here for generations of Longhorns to come.
