Gold has become a gold commodity-of course, you can always argue that gold has been a global commodity for centuries. Now, more gold ETFs internationally have become hugely popular in the past few investors. And nobody has got any idea whether these ETFs hold physical gold to the full extent of their AUMs. Nobody has got any clue as to the real investors and when will they sell. In any panic situaion, most of the investors exhibit herd mentality and sell off their gold ETFs without batting an eyelid. 2. Understanding gold as a form of investment has become a complex issue. The complexities are not easy to understand for the layman. 3. Agreed it has gone up in the last 11 years-that by itself does not prove it would go up in future. If you see the historical world gold prices, it touched USD 850 in 1980 and touched a low of USD 300 in 2003 or thereabouts. 4. It's never a good idea to buy anything when it's run up hugely. Relentless price rises create bubbles in the system. Nobody knows when tht bubble will burst. 5. The amount of interest my article on gold proves that I need to put more perspective into the document. May be, another full article is required to put everything in proper perspective.
