GEORGE LOPEZ wasn’t actively looking to get a dog, but when he met 1-year-old Chihuahua Owen while hosting this year’s World Dog Awards in January, he felt an instant pull. “I held him, and I said, ‘Hey, maybe this might be the dog for me,’” Lopez, 55, recalls. “He’s quiet for a Chihuahua, and this guy’s all about people and all about connecting, and I thought, ‘Wow, what a special dog.’” Owen, who was originally rescued from a high-kill facility by the L.A.-based Wags and Walks shelter, is super-affectionate. “He licks a lot, and he’ll run up and kiss you,” says the comedian.
