Fit Family: “When I was 12 years old, my mom taught group fitness classes in the basement of a local church in our small town,” says Anna Laura Sommer of her introduction to fitness. Later, when Sommer was in high school, the two began lifting together. But two weeks into her freshman year of college, Sommer’s oldest brother was killed in Afghanistan. “I stopped working out for several years, turning to food for comfort. When I began grad school, I started to regularly work out as a way to cope with the stress of school life. I haven’t looked back since,” she says.
