THE RUNNING TREATMENT

A FEW YEARS AGO, MY ROOMMATE asked me to go with him to the doctor. He needed to get an HIV test, his first ever, and because he knew I was gay and dedicated to bi-annual testing, he wasn’t ashamed to ask for a bit of hand-holding. I agreed without a second thought. It had been terrifying the first time I’d gone, and I even offered to get tested as well. You know, for moral support.
