Self-coaching doubts

I’d like to be brave and give self-coaching a try. Is it realistic to think that a runner who is serious about improving can do so through self-coaching without a coaching qualification? Or is that a stupid idea and should I just get a coach?

Before I get to the specifics of this, I feel like I need to clarify my position. I am a running coach, which should make me recommend hiring a coach. But, I do also coach myself, and did employ a coach when training for Ironman in 2017, so I feel like this puts me on both sides of the
