RECORD RUNNING

t’s been a very busy month here at Aeroflow Outlaw Nitro Funny Cars. We had two test sessions booked in. For the first one, I was driving ‘Let’s Boogie’, and, once again, our aim was just to improve on the car’s PB and make it a better race car. Running a PB speed off the trailer was very encouraging, however we couldn’t improve on its 5.60 PB, as all we could manage was a 5.61 on a very hot Sydney day. The second test day is the one I want to talk about. It was finally time to get ‘One Bad Kiwi’ back out and try to stretch its legs and see what we could do on this new Sydney surface. It had been exactly a year to the day from the last time I drove it, and that was at Meremere! The plan was to take three cars out with Brandon But we just didn’t have an extra driver available. Graeme just turned round and said, “Well, you can drive two, can’t you?” I calmly replied, “Yeah, no problems mate. Let’s make it happen.” Well, let me tell you, if I was in that room by myself, I would have been jumping up and down with so much excitement I would have hit my head on the roof. The Chev is the one car that everyone wants to drive: it’s the quickest ’57 Chev funny car in the world, it’s the quickest Outlaw Nitro funny car — it’s, well, the Chev!

If it wasn’t for modern-day doomscrolling, we wonder how many cars would never have been built. Kieran Tucker’s ’55 Cadillac Coupe DeVille is one of those. When he was scrolling through Facebook Marketplace a couple of years ago with no specific purp
