Description
Neil Severin is a wicked rogue, black of heart and black of reputation. A man of no morals, devoid of compassion, he is a government-sanctioned assassin. And his newest target is a man Beth holds dear. When the flame-haired beauty thwarts his plan, Neil exacts his own brand of spicy revenge.
Beth despises him. Neil doesn't care. But circumstances most unexpectedly throw them together, and with Beth's life in danger, Neil finds himself in the unexpected role of hero, racing to save her before it's too late.
What he never expects is the twist fate hands him: instead of his saving her, Beth winds up saving him. In a fight for their lives, Neil and Beth travel the British countryside, fleeing the ruthless killers out for Neil's blood, the men after Beth, and their growing attraction to each other. Can Neil forgive himself for his past and accept Beth's love? Can Beth overcome her fear and trust Neil? Will she have to choose between him and her family? And most important, can they both survive long enough to begin a new life together?

- (5/5)The characters in this book are fantastic! Beth is outgoing, clever, and the perfect heroine. From the first few pages the headstrong charismatic Banning sister is engaging and whimsical.
When she crosses paths with a dangerous rouge, Neil Severin, sparks ignite and lives will change.
The characters are clever, well thought out, and entertaining! The dialogue is witty and well written. The romance is hot, hot, hot!
This is a must-read book and one of my all-time favorite Karen Robard novels. - (1/5). . .because amoral men make the best husbands.
- (4/5)Trigger warning for an attempted rape followed by the threat of impending rape right at the beginning of the book.
- (3/5)Madcap ingenue with several canceled engagements to her credit fends off attack by her latest ex-fiance and is saved by a tall-dark-and-handsome stranger. Stranger has his own agenda, but ends up being a good-guy in spite of his violent inclinations. Ingenue falls in love. Stranger falls in love. Circumstances seem dire, but all comes right and its another happily ever after, the end.Sigh... Not so bad as Harlequin romances go, but not up to Robards' usual standards. Borrow, don't buy.
- (2/5)The heroine is soooo annoying. She has her moments but for the most part she’s incredibly childish. Also, her views just doesn’t suit a woman of her time. So ridiculous. I’m all for a modern thinking woman in Victorian era but this girl’s mindset is just out of that particular world and illogical.
