Description

On the day she was abducted, Annie O'Sullivan, a thirty-two-year-old Realtor, had three goals: sell a house, forget about a recent argument with her mother, and be on time for dinner with her ever-patient boyfriend. The open house is slow, but when her last visitor pulls up in a van as she's about to leave, Annie thinks it just might be her lucky day after all.

Interwoven with the story of the year Annie spent captive in a remote mountain cabin-which unfolds through sessions with her psychiatrist-is a second narrative recounting the nightmare that follows her escape: her struggle to piece her shattered life back together, the ongoing police investigation into the identity of her captor, and the disturbing sense that things are far from over.

The truth doesn't always set you free.

Still Missing is a shocking, visceral, brutal, and beautifully crafted debut novel about surviving the unsurvivable-and living to bear witness.

About the author

CHEVY STEVENS lives on Vancouver Island with her husband and daughter. When she isn’t working on her next book, she’s hiking with her two dogs on her favorite mountain trails and spending time with her family. Chevy's current obsessions are vintage Airstreams, Hollywood memoirs, all things mid-century modern, and stand-up comedians--not necessarily in that order. Her books, including Still Missing, a New York Times bestseller and winner of the International Thriller Writers Award for Best First Novel, have been published in more than thirty countries.

The ending was a real WTF moment. It felt pretty unbelievable, although I imagine there are people in this world who are just that messed up. I didn't really like the format of Annie relaying her story to her therapist. I would have appreciated the story more if we got the whole abduction story at once, instead of in bits and pieces.

I did find this story to be very interesting and it kept me wanting more. I wanted to find out how she escapes, and why she was abducted in the first place. Annie has some pretty obnoxious people in her life. Her mom is extremely self centered, and to a lesser extent so is her "best friend". They seem more worried about how Annie's abduction effect them, rather than focusing on Annie.

As I was listening to this I realized I had read it before. But it was still good the second time around. There are lots of twists and turns and the person who is behind Annie's abduction will surprise you. It really shows how messed up your life can become with one incident. I found this book really fascinating and disturbing.

Oh! My! God!! The intensity of this book is incredible. I was riveted throughout. The subject matter, kidnap, rape, murder, is very uncomfortable (but not done gratuitously). Annie, the victim, is real and likable character - just put in an impossible situation. And then the ending....Holy Cow!!! Not much can be said without giving it away. Just go read this book.

This was a very good book. I enjoyed the way the story is being told through her conversations with her "shrink".

I could have done w/o the ending, but it did keep me guessing until the bitter end...
