Stephanie Plum has decided to a career change from fugitive apprehension agent to ?? She takes various low-level jobs but doesn't seem to last very long or even at all! Disaster seems to be her partner everywhere she goes: Kan Klean Dry Cleaners, Cluck-in-a-Bucket, the button factory.It also seems that a past 'client' is tracking her with murder on his mind...her murder. Looks like her past intends to be her present. Trying to avoid this person and get some sort of a regular job keeps Stephanie on the move. Also the men in her life who are vying for her attention.This series is fast moving and hilarious to read. I started it in May but didn't really pick it up and read it till mid July. I think I needed a jolt of Stephanie Plum to make me grin.

While seeking out job opportunities, Stephanie is harassed by an old client. All the familiar characters in Stephanie's life are present and accounted for in this typical light and fun, adventurous read.Even though one knows exactly what to expect from a Stephanie Plum escapade, it still has its moments of just plain, silly fun. Rating: 4Evanovich draws in a character from a previous book in the series. Thought to be dead from a fire, the son of the Stiva Funeral Home director comes back to haunt Stephanie with creepy notes and bombs. Yes, cars driven by bounty hunter Stephanie Plum continue to meet disastrous ends in this installment of the Plum series. The tug of war between the men in Stephanie's life find a tenuous truce while both Morelli and Ranger struggle to keep her alive. Death, mayhem, and hilarious situations abound in Eleven on Top.
Rating: 4Ranger's voice may not be enough to keep me listening to these books. The "plot" was even weaker than the previous installment.
Rating: 1Book eleven (more or less) in the Stephanie Plum series. In this one, Stephanie gets fed up and decides to quit her bounty hunter job -- which she really ought to have done about ten books ago, if you ask me -- and also seems to have become a target for a bad guy from the past out looking for revenge.What is there to say about this one, really? It's a Stephanie Plum novel. You read one, you've read 'em all, and even having Stephanie temporarily quit her job just adds a running joke about new jobs that end in disaster to the running joke about cars being destroyed. As usual, I found the wacky hijinks mildly amusing, the love triangle that never goes anywhere mildly annoying, and the constant jokes about women overeating and worrying about their weight increasingly irritating. The plot is paper-thin, and mostly only gets interesting for about ten pages at the end, but it's hard to care much since the plot is mostly an excuse for aforementioned wacky hijinks, anyway. There was a line of dialog or two that gave me a little bit of a chuckle, although this one lacked the occasional laugh-out-loud moments the best of them have. And it was about the speed my brain could handle while trying to pass a boring night shift on far too little sleep.
Rating: 3BOTTOM-LINE:One of the funniest of the series without being ridiculous.PLOT OR PREMISE:Stephanie's had enough of the bounty hunter business, so she quits and takes a series of jobs around Jersey. Meanwhile, someone's hunting her with threats, shots, and car bombs. Could it be the undertaker's son?.WHAT I LIKED:All the various jobs going to heck in a handbasket are a hoot, not to mention Stephanie telling people she plays the cello, which they now want her to do at the wedding. And things really heat up when Stephanie starts working at Rangeman..WHAT I DIDN'T LIKE:The plot with a bunch of missing businessmen takes a long time to gel, but not really a problem..DISCLOSURE:I received no compensation, not even a free copy, in exchange for this review. Rating: 3This was another fun mindless episode in the Stephanie Plum series. Stephanie decides she's had enough bounty hunting and tries to quit. Of course, hilarious trouble follows her wherever she goes. The best part of this episode was Lula trying to take Stephanie's place as a bounty hunter. Grandma Mazur made her usual hilarious editions to the situation and Stephanie's sister made a few funny additions, too. Great mindless fun as usual.
Rating: 4As always, the characters were wonderful. However, the plot for this installment fell a bit flat. Oh well, can't win 'em all. I will still continue with this Stephanie Plum series.

I really enjoyed this one. Lula is still over the top, but the mystery was good, and having Stephanie quit her job was interesting. This book used some nice variations on the basic themes of the previous novels in the series.
Rating: 4It is always fun to listen to a Stephanie plum adventure. Much is the same. Lots of sex with Morelli and steamy innuendo from ranger. Stephanie quits bounty hunting and tries other jobs that end in disaster. Fired for being late at button factory. Lula fights with momma macaroni at dry cleaners and she gets blown up in Stephanie's car. She burns down cluck in the bucket so ends up working for Ranger. She gets threatening notes and thinks it is spiro steva, but it ends up being his father. Morelli gets run over with a broken leg and Valerie and clown decide to not get married.
Rating: 3With Stephanie no longer working as a bounty hunter, this installment was a tad different from the other books in the series. She still got in all sorts of trouble, and ended up covered in food and garbage on several occasions, so it wasn't that different. It seemed to me that there was a bit more Ranger and Joe in this one and a little less Lula and Grandma Mazur. I can't say I like that. It was still good, and funny, and all the things the other books are, but I didn't find myself laughing as much as in the previous books. I hope it's not a sign of things to come. The plot was ok, though I wasn't particularly surprised by the ending. I'm hoping Steph will have her old job (and more Lula) back for Twelve Sharp.
Rating: 3Ever since I've read this I've been pretending I work for Range Man, Inc. I might go as far as to start wearing all black and tucking my 38 Special into my waistband when I go to work. Even though I work from home. Even though I'm not actually researching fugitives instead of accounting. I might have a slight problem with using fiction as escapism, yes?

It was a nice twist in this series and I always wondered if she was going to end up working where she is now working. So much fun in this one that I cannot wait to start reading the next one.
Rating: 5After the movie, One for the Money (I loved it), I wanted to read the books. I was half happy and half disappointed (to be fair the first few books were better than the rest - I've read 17 or 18). The writing isn't anything special but there is banter and wit (which is waning). I love her grandma, the ex-hooker, and some other random side characters - that and the witty moments kept me coming back for more.By the time of the 5th book (or at least by the 10th) you would think she would start to get the hang of her job or get a new one - nope. At a certain point she is just a pretty woman of 30ish who can't pick from 2 men (or choose to move on from both), who is bad at her job, and relies on luck and the men in her life to save her (to be fair I think of one time she was saved by a woman).So why do I keep reading? In spite of how annoying she is, and how she is hopelessly in love with 2 mildly mentally abusive men? Despite all the half attractive or good guys being over 6 ft tall for some reason and all the other men are taken or ugly? The reason is the supporting crazy characters, and the fading wit.
Rating: 3After reading a couple of the previous books I was worried about the direction was taking but this one reaffirmed my love for this series. I liked getting to see Stephanie try her hand at other jobs besides being a bounty hunter. I am really interested in seeing whether she lasts working for Ranger.

Rating: 5One thing I've noticed about Janet Evanovich's Stephanie Plum series is that they have become my guilty pleasure. It is always a killer to wait for one if these books to come from the library. As you could already tell, I really enjoyed Eleven on Top. So many events and chaos is packed into these books and it is all neatly wrapped up in the end, usually hilariously so.

However, her life threatening troubles don't stop there. As she goes from job to job, Stephanie is being stalked: she receives odd little notes and...her cars keep blown up.
She has a theory it might be Stiva, the Burg's funeral director's son. His body was never recovered after that funeral parlor explosion. Stephanie also thinks it may be connected to the disapperance of four aging respected businessmen in the Burg. Besides from that, she must deal with her sister's impending wedding and her unresolved feelings for Joseph Morelli and Ranger.
Some reviewers are a little harsh on this series. I think it's just supposed to be hella fun with a very interesting mystery attached to it. Usually, I do not like love triangles but somehow, the whole Stephanie-Morelli-Ranger polygon, works and I am highly entertained by it.

This is my first Stephanie Plum book but won’t be my last. I listened to the audio version of this while I daily walks with the dog and loved the storyline. It also was “performed” very well. (Borrowed audio copy from my local library.)

Stephanie Plum quits her job as a bounty hunter after rolling in the garbage with a fugitive. She just wants a normal life. Only she has problems with every other job she takes on, a couple in a huge way when it seems a ghost from her past is toying with her with some spectacular results.Ranger offers her a job sitting in front of a computer at Rangeman, doing searches and background checks, specifically focusing on the disappearance of some men. In this job she’s actually safer as no one can get to her car when it’s parked in the Rangeman building, although Joe isn’t too happy about it.We’ve also got Valerie’s wedding, Joe gets hurt, Lula now working as a bounty hunter and needing Stephanie’s help, fire, car explosions, sexual tension and a great deal of humor.One of the things it’s easy to get bugged about is the fact that Stephanie doesn’t seem to grow or get any better at her job. And yet in this story, while she’ll never be as good as Ranger—certainly never as capable or intimidating—it is obvious that she’s better at it than she used to be, especially in comparison to Lula. I’ve reread this one a number of times since it came out. Even knowing what happens I find it’s a relaxing escape for a few hours.
Rating: 5Tired of the bounty hunter life, Stephanie quits. Of course, as disaster follows her everywhere, she is unable to keep the jobs she finds: button factory worker, dry cleaners, and fast-food joint. Granted, her job troubles are amplified by the killer dogging her every step… Steph’s job with Ranger (which does last) makes for very steamy moments, and the cast of characters is hilarious as always, but I am getting sick of the whole, Morelli or Ranger question…

Rating: 2I was starting to get a little fed up with Stephanie...and then she quits her "bounty hunter" job. The series of jobs she gets and how each of them end dramatically and disastrously make for about the most hilarious reading I've done in a long time. Evanovich has redeemed herself with this one. It might be the best book of the series I've read, after the first.
