About this audiobook

Linked by an unbreakable telepathic bond, Dion and the wolf, Gray Hishn, were an unbeatable team. Together, they could scout a trail better than any single human, and their unique healing talent had saved the lives of their companions during their desperate flight through the frozen mountains to warn their people of impending war.
Now enemy agents scoured the countryside looking for the group that included a young healer and her wolf. And suddenly the very strengths that Dion's friends had come to rely on could mean the downfall of them all...

It's not that this was a horrible book. However, it just didn't grab me. I read this for a book club read and everyone else in the group, I'm sure, will love it, but it was just okay for me.

The story takes place in the Appalachian Mountains where Dellarobia encounters a butterfly home for the winter. The monarchs were supposed to go to Mexico, but their flight path was rerouted for some unknown reason. Characters that play a major role would be the scientist who randomly comes to her and stays with her for months and her family members. Within the family, you have the overpowering mother in law (Hester) who finally starts to warm up towards the last 10% of the book and really lets you know what she's thinking. My favorite characters, though, would have to be her best friend who sends her texts off church signs and her son, Preston, a budding scientist himself at the age of 5.

I love Dellarobia's character. She's a tiny but strong person, who is way smarter than anyone gives her credit for. She is very much trapped in a poor farming life and thrives with the tutelage of scientists. She has a way of communicating that is far superior to anyone else in the story.

The monarch storyline, of course, is the focal part of the story, and there's a lot said about global warming and the effects of it. I particularly enjoyed the lashing out at the media for trying to take something like this and sugar coating it, while avoiding the huge issue of what's actually taking place.

There could be some good discussions on the book, since it dealt with a variety of current issues - global warming, poverty, education, adoption, marriage... Looking forward to hearing what folks think of this one.
