- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5This entertaining tail Farmer Brown's cows who happen to find an old typewriter in the barn one day. They decided to type a list of demands they want met or they will go on strike. This humorous story teaches the art of negotiation and compromise. Caldecott Honor Book. Great read for all ages.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5This book is hilarious. The cows have an electric typewriter so they make demands on Farmer Brown by typing a note to him. Then the hens do the same thing! Along comes a neutral party--the duck, The outcome is not what you might suspect. I think it would be great fun to read this book to a preschooler because the ideas are silly, the illustrations are terrific, and the story introduces quite a few ideas to discuss. In addition, you can explain to a preschooler what a typewriter is before they all completely disappear! :D
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Cows that type?! Hens on strike?! Whoever heard of such things, wonders Farmer Brown, as he deals with the messages left for him by his herd of cows, informing him that they want electric blankets for the cold... and that the chickens do as well! Using the neutral Duck as a negotiator, farmer and animals negotiate, until a compromise is reached. Unfortunately for the farmer, the typewriter falls into the hands of the ducks next...Originally published in 2000, and chosen as a Caldecott Honor Book in 2001, Click, Clack, Moo: Cows That Type is a hilariously entertaining picture-book romp! I would imagine that young listeners will get quite a few giggles out of Farmer Brown's outraged incredulity (I know I did!), and will enjoy following along as the cows negotiate better living conditions. The artwork by Betsy Lewin builds on the madcap humor of the text perfectly, and is very appealing. Recommended to young children who enjoy stories with a silly sense of humor.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5This one I really enjoyed. The cows and the farmer having a stalemate and the ducks brokering a peace agreement. Cute, funny and quick this is an enjoyable tale.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5HILARIOUS! FURTHER DISCUSSED IN VISUAL LITERACY ASSIGNMENT
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Click, Clack, Moo, cows that type is such a great fun book. I love the imagination that it teaches the children that anything can happen. Cows don't really type but it would be interesting if they did.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Growing up, this was my FAVORITE book to read with my grandpa. This book is great for children grades K-3 as a read-aloud or independent read. I would use this book for a lesson on onomatopoeia because the words "click" and "clack" actually sound like what a typewriter sounds like. I could also use this book for a lesson on writing letters because the ducks and cows write the farmer letters.i think the kids would like this book because it is funny and is short enough to where students will not get bored when reading it.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Stumbled upon this book at the public library, clever! :)
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I read this book numerous times when I was younger and it was great to revisit it! Farmer Browns cows can type and when they are tired of the way they are being treated, they type farmer brown a letter of their demands, when he refuses to meet those demands, they go on strike! A funny tale about a few clever and witty cows :)
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5This book is written to be a comedy. The pictures are cute and the book itself uses repetition by having each of the animals wanting something from the farmer. This book is great for younger children because they will find it funny and the pictures will keep them interested.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5I would use this book to demonstrate repetition. I think children would enjoy repeating the "click, clack, Moo," of the cows.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Cute, silly, and decently illustrated.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5I liked this book because I thought it was very clever. It reminds me of the book If You Give A Mouse A Cookie. If you give the cows a typewriter, they might write you a note. It made me laugh that the ducks got the type writer and the story continued. This book is about what happens when the cows get a typewriter. They are able to voice their opinions and give some demands to the farmer. They decide to make a trade to get what they want. I think this book could be used as a mentor text to talk about persuasive writing. Students could write letters to persuade others about something they feel strongly.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5This book is quite comical and written for young, elementary readers. It follows the story of barn yard animals, mostly cows, that find a typewriter and begin asking the farmer for electric blankets and other items. It is very entertaining and uses pictures and some repetition that helps younger readers.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5This book is very comical and it involves a lot of typing. Basically the animals on the farm, the cows in particular want a blanket to keep them warm. When Farmer Brown refuses, the cows go on strike. Their only way of communicating with Farmer Brown is through letters they are trying on an old type writer. The great part about this book is that it can be read-aloud very easily because when the cow are typing the reader and the kids can say "Click Clack Moo" along with the cows. This is a great book and it will keep the children laughing and engaged.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5This book is beloved by children and could offer a humorous entry point to discussing politics and revolution with young children. In this story, a group of cows petitions for better living and working conditions, eventually striking. The book includes a rhyming portion that uses the sounds of the animals and type writer that kids love chanting along to. A very entertaining picture book, it could be a valuable addition to classrooms studying these complex social studies topics from K-8!
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I loved this book! The story is about Farmer Brown's cows who type him letters to recieve electric blankets. The cows refuse to milk, unless Farmer Brown gives them blankets. In the end, Farmer Brown gives his cows electric blankets. This story would be great for young elementary grades, it's predictable, humourous, and has wonderful illustrations.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5This is a fun book to read to kids when discussing farm, farm animals, cows, or just to read in general. Children like this story because it is fun and entertaining. The book is an award winning Caldecott and is very fun to read with children. The children think it is funny that the cows type. I recommend this book to have in the classroom.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5This silly book shows us what animals may say if they could talk. Farmer Brown's cows get ahold of a typewriter and start leaving messages. This book would act as a great writing prompt. After reading the book students could then come up with their own typed letters from animals.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Farmer Brown refused to give the cows and hens electric blankets. The cows and hens went on strike until they got what they wanted. The cows decided to exchange their typewriter for electric blankets, so Farmer Brown agreed to give them the blankets. I thought this was a cute book. It teaches you that sometime you have to be willing to sacrifice some to receive something you need.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5"Click, Clack, Moo: Cows that Type" is silly and witty, filled with demanding farm animals that take on human attributes in their quest for power and resources. Farmer Brown's unruly cows get ahold of a typewriter and once they do, they use it to start making silly demands -they want electric blankets for the cold nights, otherwise they won't be producing milk. The cows are able to rally the support of the hens, and together, they go on strike, with the ducks acting as the "neutral" party, carrying the correspondances back and forth between the farmer and the barn animals. This books teaches children to think about issues such as compromise and basic politics, and does so through a variety of writing styles. The book is a delightful mix of ordinary prose, letter-writing, and sounds and phrases that get repeated throughout the text. This book is great for interactive read alouds, where children can participate by repeating phrases and sounds that often appear in the book. The engaging text is accompanied of whimsical and funny drawings, which serve to entertain students, but also helps them to make sense of some of the more complex, adult features of the story.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Farmer Brown's cows feel they have poor working conditions. They find a typewriter and start making demands for electric blankets. Will Farmer Brown give in? Will there be milk for him to sell? What happens when the chickens join in? A funny tale of how fighting for what you deserve may pay off. Cute for young children and adults who love cows that type.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5This tale of poor working conditions and animals on strike is sure to tickle the funny bone. Will Farmer Brown submit to the animal strike? Is he willing to negotiate? Use this book to start a conversation about the relationship between capitalists and the working class.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Farmer Brown's cows find an old typewriter. They begin to leave him notes and demand things like blankets because it's cold. When he doesn't provide the blankets the cows go on strike. The books is very funnt and kids love it. Grades K - 3.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5The cows from Bob's Farm get a typewriter and they start making demands for electric blankets. The farmer refuses to give them what they want eventually they make an agreement were they both get what they want. I have read this book to my students both in Spanish and English they enjoyed it.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Summary:Farmer Brown's cows have found an old typewriter. Using the typewriter they send notes of "demands" to Farmer Brown. The cows and Farmer Brown finally are able to come to a comprise so they both get what they want.Personal Reaction:Personally I love cows, so for me it was fun to see the cows trying to win their way.Classroom Extension Ideas:1.Have the students write down something they would like and what they think would be fair to give up in return.2.Discuss with the class what compromise is and how the cows and Framer Brown were both able to get what they wanted.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Summary:On Farmer Brown's farm, some very smart cows find an old typewriter in a barn. The cows learn to type, and leave Farmer Brown a message asking for electric blankets to help keep them warm at night. Farmer Brown will not give them blankets, so the cows decide to go on strike. Finally, the cows and Farmer Brown make a deal: to swap the typewriter for electric blanets. The deal works and both the cows and Farmer Brown are happy, until the ducks get an idea to do the same thing. . . My Personal Reaction: This book is wonderful and has the potential to be very interactive with students. "Click, Clack, Moo: Cows That Type" received a Caldecott Award, so the illustrations are obviously wonderful. It was also a great book to help explain to students what a negotiation is,and how it works.Classroom Extension Ideas:1. Have students journal about which farm animal would ask for something from Farmer Brown after the ducks and what they think this animal would ask for.2. During a social studies unit that includes an economics lesson, this book could be used to help show what a negotiation is.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5A children's book about collective bargaining. Amazing!
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Just a book about cows going on strike and writing notes to a farmer via computer... no big deal. Happens all the time right? Descriptive language... funny and cooky. Would be nice to just have available in the classroom library or to use as a read aloud.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5This book is great for kids! They would get so excited to read it because it is so silly. I would teach the students about typewriters and explain everything about them. I would also let students use computers to type their own notes. This would be a wonderful book to use in the classroom especially to introduce the use of computers to the class.
