About this audiobook
"Believing that something is wrong with us is a deep and tenacious suffering," says Tara Brach at the start of this illuminating book. This suffering emerges in crippling self-judgments and conflicts in our relationships, in addictions and perfectionism, in loneliness and overwork — all the forces that keep our lives constricted and unfulfilled.
Radical Acceptance offers a path to freedom, including the day-to-day practical guidance developed over Dr. Brach's 20 years of work with therapy clients and Buddhist students.
Writing with great warmth and clarity, Tara Brach brings her teachings alive through personal stories and case histories, fresh interpretations of Buddhist tales, and guided meditations. Step by step, she leads us to trust our innate goodness, showing how we can develop the balance of clear-sightedness and compassion that is the essence of Radical Acceptance. Radical Acceptance does not mean self-indulgence or passivity. Instead it empowers genuine change: healing fear and shame and helping to build loving, authentic relationships. When we stop being at war with ourselves, we are free to live fully every precious moment of our lives.

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5So much good stuff to ponder and keep in mind. Going to get print and ebook versions to share.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5I love the idea behind the twin wings of radical acceptance -- recognition of the way things are and great compassion for oneself and others as we deal with it. But I struggle a bit with bringing the advice, ideas and lengthy meditation prompts to life in my life.

- Rating: 1 out of 5 stars1/5Might be helpful if you're new to Buddhist teachings and don't mind totally saccharin hyperbolic stories of how meditation and the author's insights changed lives over and over again.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Tara's take on radical acceptance and the difference it can make in your life is worth trying. Having finished the book, I am beginning to apply some of the principles. I know I will need to read this book again.

- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5This book gave me some perspective on a an issue I've been gradually healing for years now. I am really grateful. It helped me look at the work I was doing and made me realize how I could do things differently and more effectively. One constructive note: if you are not an overly-sensitive person, you might find the stories and examples a bit mushy at times. That being said, it's worth listening to and implementing what you feel is right for you.

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5For a (previously) very staunchly "anti self-help-book person," I believe this is the most helpful book I have ever read re: self. I reached for this mostly for futher Buddhism study, but also to get through a rough patch in life. And wow, did it help. It is rather amazing the things I uncovered about how human beings act based on usually pretty simple needs (fears, attachments, desires, etc.) gone awry - when all along, the peace and solace lie within. I guess I always knew that, but somehow this book made me understand the dynamic a whole lot more. Brach is a wonderful author who works hard to get us all to love ourselves again, and in turn, make the world a better place (helping yourself ultimately helps the love we are able to give others - or really, they work in tandem). I will definitely check out other works by her and will recommend this one highly, to many, many people ... in my journey through life.
