Description

Stephen King's #1 national bestseller about a store where Leland Gaunt can sell you whatever your heart desires-sexual pleasure, wealth, power, or even more precious things-but not without exacting some price in return. "A read in the tradition of The Stand" (Booklist).

Leland Gaunt opens a new shop in Castle Rock called Needful Things. Anyone who enters his store finds the object of his or her lifelong dreams and desires: a prized baseball card, a healing amulet. In addition to a token payment, Gaunt requests that each person perform a little "deed," usually a seemingly innocent prank played on someone else from town. These practical jokes cascade out of control and soon the entire town is doing battle with itself. Only Sheriff Alan Pangborn suspects that Gaunt is behind the population's increasingly violent behavior.

"Fast-paced, well-constructed…cleverly plotted" (The Plain Dealer, Cleveland), Needful Things is often praised as "tremendous…wonderful…one of King's best" (Kirkus Reviews).

I hated the music with the book. But the reading was fine. Get rid of that music that made static in my ears

Leland gaunts lines from dracula . Was my favorite part.

Not exactly scary but a lot of supernatural elements and excitement. A good story too.
  • (5/5)
I read this book as a kid when it first came out, and I loved it even more this time than I did back then, and having King narrating made it that much better. He is after all a storyteller first, and his reading gives you the sense you could sit around a wood stove or campfire listening to him tell tales all day and night.

Like Salems Lot, you need to be patient and absorb the setup before things really get going, but it’s quite worth it. Go listen now..

Loved the book...hated the "music and sound effects" loved the narration
  • (5/5)
It’s a breathtaking and mind bending narration by Stephen king. It’s a bit mysterious and scary. He also bolstered the fact of innate greediness and wanting of human beings and to what extent that greediness can take you. Very riveting narration but only for strong hearted.
