About this audiobook

In a society that loses its collective memory, one girl remembers everything.

The beloved author of Rook, Sharon Cameron, takes listeners by storm with her brilliant foray into science fiction.

Seventeen-year-old Nadia lives in Canaan, a quiet city in an idyllic world, hemmed in by high walls that are constructed of a material no one in her town recognizes. Every 12 years the people of Canaan undergo a collective Forgetting; in the days before, the town devolves into a chaos of bloody violence, and afterward the people are left without any trace of memory of themselves, their families, their lives.

Nadia has never forgotten, however. As the next Forgetting approaches, Nadia is determined to find out what causes it and whether there is any way to stop it. With the help of Gray, the glassblower's handsome son, she discovers that there is a devious plot afoot, one that keeps the people of Canaan permanently subdued. Will Nadia be able to solve the mystery before the people forget the truth? And before Gray forgets her?

A remarkable story of memory and loss, love and indomitable courage.

Outstanding, complex story with well-rounded and emotionally deep characters. Perfect world-building. I’m in love and will get my hands on the hardcover right now.

Really liked the exploration of characters and expression of how a “perfect society” can be easily twisted into an authoritarian and oppressive regime that willfully keeps its citizens ignorant of their abilities and wisdom.

This book gives you a moment to ponder if your ideals surrounding your life and set of memories are based on that your memories.
Who are you with your memories? Are you better for them? Who are you without them?

While the book could be fairly predictable--nope!!! Wrong. It was a few REALLY REALLY good twists that caused me to gasp.

I really enjoyed the pace and being infuriated with some of the characters which made for an enjoyable read/listen.

Excellent book. Great concept. Refreshing. The first person perspective of captivating and you really grow to love the characters especially Genovese and Nadia...... You can't predict what's coming in most of this and that's the beauty of it.

The ending sucked. The book was okay at best, but the ending was straight trash.

Young adult distopian kind of vibes. Kind of like a mox between the Giver and The Maze Runner series. Pretty good

It was a very interesting book that I would put under the category of science fiction. I love how the author slowly develops the characters and builds the world through our main character's eyes. This has light, but real romance in it, which I greatly appreciate.

This was a pretty good read with a fantastic twist. I didn't love the narrator though, it always felt a bit like she was whispering which could get annoying.

Story is fine but the narrator's voice is so annoying!

The speculative fiction part of this was really unique and I thought well executed. The love story part felt more cliche and using a lot of overdone tropes. But that's not why I started reading it.

The reader was way too dramatic and I did not enjoy how she read it. Mostly it was over the top and dramatic/whiny which made me dislike the main character. I think I would’ve enjoyed the story more with a different narrator. But that is purely my opinion
