About this audiobook

Bilbo Baggins is a hobbit who enjoys a comfortable and quiet life. His contentment is disturbed one day when the wizard, Gandalf, and the dwarves arrive to take him away on an adventure.

Bilbo Baggins is a hobbit who enjoys a comfortable, unambitious life, rarely travelling further than the pantry of his hobbit-hole in Bag End.

But his contentment is disturbed when the wizard, Gandalf, and a company of thirteen dwarves arrive on his doorstep one day to whisk him away on an unexpected journey ‘there and back again’. They have a plot to raid the treasure hoard of Smaug the Magnificent, a large and very dangerous dragon…

The prelude to The Lord of the Rings, The Hobbit has sold many millions of copies since its publication in 1937, establishing itself as one of the most beloved and influential books of the twentieth century.

Editor's Note

Iconic quest…

Bilbo Baggins, a respectable, well-to-do hobbit, lives comfortably in his hobbit-hole until the day the wandering wizard Gandalf chooses him to take part in an adventure from which he may never return. Shaped by ancient mythology, this exciting and earthy quest story (populated by dragons, dwarfs, monsters, and sorcerers) has engaging heroes and is the perfect place to start for anyone interested in jumping into Middle-earth.

Another set text. This is like the foreword of LOTR. If you like a magical epic journey about bravery and friendship, this is the one book you are looking for.

What can one say? A charming children's book for adults, with hints of darker things to come in the Lord of the Rings trilogy.

A great fantasy story. a very nice mix, with thrills, fights, escapes and humour: not too whimsical - just enough.

More of a children's fare than the pregnant Lord of the Rings. Good adventure story, great introduction the master's thesis.
