About this audiobook

Leorah Langdon has no patience for Regency society's shallow hypocrisy and unnecessary rules, especially for women. She's determined to defy convention by marrying for grand passion instead of settling for a loveless union like her parents' or wedding a stuffy, pompous gentleman like Edward, the Viscount Withinghall. But when a chance meeting in the countryside leads to Leorah and Withinghall being discovered in his overturned carriage—alone and after dark—the ensuing gossip may force them together.

Withinghall has his reasons for clinging to propriety; his father perished in a duel with his mistress's husband, and Edward must avoid scandal himself if he wants to become prime minister. He certainly has no time for a reckless hoyden like Miss Langdon. But soon the two discover that Withinghall's coach "accident" was no such thing: the vehicle was sabotaged.

Can the culprit be brought to justice? Strong-willed Leorah and duty-driven Withinghall will have to work together if they have any hope of saving her reputation, his political career—and his life.

This us a well written story about remaining true to your convictions regardless of gossip and other thoughts. I loved the heroine. The narrator was difficult to listen to. Her voice for the hero was like nails on a chalk board but hang in there the story is worth it!

I really enjoyed this book. Jane Austin fans will notice some definite parallels between this book and "Pride and Prejudice".

Some how this writer was able to overcome the chaper 26 or 85% curse and did NOT put a stupid twist that has made me quit so many books.
The great enemy in this book is a person(s) instead of the writers incompetence. But what if the reader well she did an excellent job on the female voices BUT…….. what the $@&&$&&&!!!! Was she doing on the male voices wrapping a scarf around her neck and pulling????

The story was okay, but the narrator's voice for the viscount was so bad I almost gave up. He sounded like a crotchety old lady.

This book and the book before it in this series are probably my favorite books by this author. They are good clean historical romance books that you can listen to in front of your kids without worrying about what they might hear or pick up on.

Love the story but not so much the reader. She made the viscount sound very foppish and weak voiced.

This book is engaging and entertaining. However, I recommend you find it in printed copy instead of listening to the audiobook because the narrator does such a horrible voice for the hero that it greatly detracts from the story.

Sweet story, but the narrator nearly ruined it for me. She had a nice voice, so why did she choose to make the main male character’s voice sound like an elderly billy goat? It really ruined the effect of the romantic scenes. Every other male character in the book had a better sounding voice than the hero’s. It was very annoying. I found myself pausing the story at important lines to repeat the words in a different voice in my head so that I could decide if I liked the dialogue or not. The book mentioned that the heroine felt like the hero spoke in a way that made him sound older than he was, but I think that was reflected more in his wording/attitude than his actual voice. The elderly goat voice was entire unnecessary and distracting.

It's more like a sermon rather than a romance novel

Nice and wholesome, easy listening, as they all lived happily ever after

Title: A Viscount’s Proposal (The Regency Spies of London #2)Author: Melanie DickersonPages: 283Year: 2017Publisher: Waterfall PressMy rating is 4 stars.Edward, Viscount Withinghall has tried all his life to avoid scandal and life a pious life to try to redeem his family’s good name. His father did his best to desecrate the family name and plagued the family with his wild ways. Edward has vowed to be just the opposite. He has his eye set on becoming the youngest Prime Minister of England. He needs a proper, gentle, staid wife for her role in his career and life. Leorah Langdon is definitely not the kind of wife he would ever consider!Leorah Langdon flouts society’s rules that try to limit women. She maintains her good reputation and virtue, but she isn’t afraid to speak her mind. She meets Viscount Withinghall and thinks he is a stuffed shirt. He thinks she is a hoyden. They do not get along on a subsequent meeting. Then, Leorah is out riding her horse alone, is thrown and breaks her wrist. Edward happens to be driving by in his carriage and offers to give her a ride home. During the trip home, Edward’s carriage overturns, his driver is killed, the horses run away, Edward breaks his leg and then it starts to rain. Night falls and it is close to midnight before anyone discovers them. Both of their reputations now are tainted with only one way to repair the damage. What can they do?While this was a good romance story, I wasn’t too sure what it had to do with spying. There were attempts on one of the main character’s lives, but he wasn’t a spy nor was the mastermind behind the crimes a spy. Other than that, I enjoyed the verbal sparring between Edward and Leorah. The old saying of opposites attract is certainly evident in this story. Two people could not be more different, but after spending some time together they both realize they have more in common than they originally thought. Edward learns not to be so concerned with what people think and Leorah learns that not everything is black and white or that what resides on the inside what is revealed on the outside. I am certainly looking forward to another book in this series!

I enjoyed the novel and liked the plot. However I do wish that a man would have played the man’s voice as the squalk of the female voice as a man spoilt the story

This is another good clean read by Melanie Dickerson. I like Leorah. She's a woman with a sense of humor who also knows her own mind. She wants a real marriage--one filled with passion. She doesn't want one like her parents.

The viscount comes across as cold and a bit condescending in the beginning. But what you see isn't always the case. He's not as cold as he appears.

The two leading characters start out with the wrong impression of each other. But life has a way of throwing them together when they least expect it and it allows both of them to see each other as they really are. Sometimes first impressions are wrong and you end up grateful for that second chance to get to know someone.
