About this audiobook

It’s happening again. And either Adam’s crazy, or he’s a kidnapped child’s only hope.

Drifter Adam Rutledge is haunted by his childhood, by how helpless he felt when his best friend was abducted and how terrifying it was to see the boy’s fate in his nightmares.

Twenty years later Adam is shaken by a vivid dream, one powerful enough to send him back to Cold Springs. But his Appalachian hometown never lost its mistrust of the orphaned boy who drew heartache like a lightning rod. Especially now that another child has been taken.

To find the missing girl, Adam must dig deep and solve the riddle of his own tragic past. When his efforts unleash visions he’s spent decades burying, his sanity stretches to the breaking point. And all the while, a man is watching and waiting in the shadows.

A madman who means to kill him.

I enjoyed this book. The narator was good and added to the entire pleasure of the story. I'm looking forward to reading another book by this author.

This book explores multiple topics in the best possible way: through character development and plot. The rural, arguably 'backward' setting is background for a cast of characters that turn out to be like people everywhere - good, bad, and indifferent and sometimes all those things at once.

I initially thought it would be yet another of those books written by urbanites about the great hordes of unwashed yokels in the hinterlands but I was gratefully wrong. The unwashed, uneducated and uncivilized are there, but so are the brave, the kind, and the supernaturally gifted - or is it incipient madness?

On the surface it's about a kidnapped little girl and the community that searches for her. How a location in crisis begins to suspect stranger and brother alike, for how well do we really know each other?

It's a darned good book, and the love the author says she hopes comes through DOES come through.
