Description

From the #1 New York Times bestselling author of In a Dark, Dark Wood, The Woman in Cabin 10, The Lying Game, and The Death of Mrs. Westaway comes Ruth Ware's highly anticipated fifth novel.

When she stumbles across the ad, she's looking for something else completely. But it seems like too good an opportunity to miss—a live-in nannying post, with a staggeringly generous salary. And when Rowan Caine arrives at Heatherbrae House, she is smitten—by the luxurious "smart" home fitted out with all modern conveniences, by the beautiful Scottish Highlands, and by this picture-perfect family.

What she doesn't know is that she's stepping into a nightmare—one that will end with a child dead and herself in prison awaiting trial for murder.

Writing to her lawyer from prison, she struggles to explain the unravelling events that led to her incarceration. It wasn't just the constant surveillance from the cameras installed around the house, or the malfunctioning technology that woke the household with booming music, or turned the lights off at the worst possible time. It wasn't just the girls, who turned out to be a far cry from the immaculately behaved model children she met at her interview. It wasn't even the way she was left alone for weeks at a time, with no adults around apart from the enigmatic handyman, Jack Grant.

It was everything.

She knows she's made mistakes. She admits that she lied to obtain the post, and that her behavior toward the children wasn't always ideal. She's not innocent, by any means. But, she maintains, she's not guilty—at least not of murder. Which means someone else is.

Full of spellbinding menace and told in Ruth Ware's signature suspenseful style, The Turn of the Key is an unputdownable thriller from the Agatha Christie of our time.

Very suspenseful, up to the very end. Loved the book.

It was fantastic! I couldn’t stop listening!

This book was amazing. One of the better ghost stories I’ve heard in awhile. There were some twists I never saw coming and still feel shocked about as I sit here writing this.

I loved the ending, of course I still have so many questions, specific to the ending, that I wish I could ask the author! I highly suggest this book to anyone who enjoys supernatural/thriller or even mystery novels.
I will absolutely be reading more from this author

The narrator too was perfection I truly enjoyed it

So I still feel a little like WTF JUST HAPPENED...but I’ve never been more invested in a book like this. While it was a true slow burn and my god took forever to GET TO THE POINT....the ending, the twist and the turns and the story, the real truth behind it all...I really enjoyed this one.

3.5 rounded up to 4 stars for good reads because while I enjoyed it, it was a bit much for me.

    ⭐⭐⭐⭐/5

This was a very interesting book. I actually had no idea where this one was going. The build up was great! The ending I didn't see coming. However I feel like it was left on a cliffhanger and I need more. That being said it was a great read the characters where amazing and the story itself was addictive.
Side note: When listening to this on scribd the narrator Imogen Church was amazing! Many times when people narrate they keep expressions low. As in when the characters yell in the book the narrators do not. However Imogen Church put so much emotion into this narration it made it perfect.

This had just enough secrets and intrigue to keep you on the edge of your seat. I’m still left wondering about the ending- in a good way. A fun listen.
  • (5/5)
Fantastically written. Had me guessing the whole time. Just when you think you knew what was going on there was a turn of events and it all changed. Amazing build up. You won't be disappointed!!
  • (5/5)
Absolutely gripping. Clever plot. Well written and wonderful to hear a British accent for a change.
  • (5/5)
Picked this book up at a library sidewalk sale. It
exceeded my expectations and kept me captivated throughout. Greatest twist ending I’ve read in a while!
  • (5/5)
great story, but the inner thoughts monologues would drone on and on. I would skip a minute or two and the main character would still be repeating the same point! it probably would have shaved off a good hour if this was toned down. otherwise, the story kept me on edge at all the good parts.
  • (5/5)
This is my first book by this author and I will definitely be reading more of her books!
Wow. That was not at all what I was expecting! And I didn’t really see any of the twists coming. But the ending. Omg. Right up until the last page was mind blowing. This book kept me pretty much on the edge of my seat. I wanted to keep reading. I had to know what was going on!!! I loved how the author only gives pieces of the story at a time. I can’t even say how much I enjoyed this book and how the author revealed things.
    READ THIS!
The audiobook is great too. Love the narrator. She really brings it to life.

Great imagery! A slow burn yet full of surprises and you really feel something for the characters.
  • (4/5)
This book took a turned I was not expecting. I love the book but not so much the end.
  • (3/5)
I was hooked, yet felt the ending left me wanting.
    I needed more, I suppose.
The character of Jack was not well written.
And the true identity of Rowan was odd and felt thrown in.
