About this audiobook

One Doctor’s Surprising Answer to the Epidemic of Autoimmunity and Chronic Disease

Over the past fifty years, rates of autoimmunity and chronic disease have exploded: currently 1 in 2.5 American children has an allergy, 1 in 11 has asthma, 1 in 13 has severe food allergies, and 1 in 36 has autism. While some attribute this rise to increased awareness and diagnosis, Thomas Cowan, MD, argues for a direct causal relationship to a corresponding increase in the number of vaccines American children typically receive—approximately 70 vaccine doses by age eighteen. The goal of these vaccines is precisely what we’re now seeing in such abundance among our chronically ill children: the provocation of immune response.

Dr. Cowan looks at emerging evidence that certain childhood illnesses are actually protective of disease later in life; examines the role of fever, the gut, and cellular fluid in immune health; argues that vaccination is an ineffective (and harmful) attempt to shortcut a complex immune response; and asserts that the medical establishment has engaged in an authoritarian argument that robs parents of informed consent. His ultimate question, from the point of view of a doctor who has decades of experience treating countless children is: What are we really doing to children when we vaccinate them?

I loved it and it has good data behind it!

I typically expect very little insight when books are written by doctors. I find laypeople typically do better research because they know they have to learn what they're talking about. Everyone gives far too much trust to a health profession where they don't even outlive the base population. There are numerous better books on the countless risks and complete lack of evidence for vaccine efficacy such as HPV Vaccine on Trial (Holland), Vaccination is Not Immunization (O’Shea), and The Real Fauci (Kennedy). The nutritional advice is mixed. You should grow your own food, buy organic, and eat a variety, but then the author suggests a meat and to a lesser extent dairy based diet. Animal foods are hard to digest and take 72 hours to breakdown at body temperature causing an incredible amount of rot, indigestion, and obesity. They are a poor source of vitamins, minerals, and contain zero fiber, nor any cancer fighting phytochemicals. Moreover, starch and casein (milk protein) make Elmer's glue causing further digestive slowdowns and horrendous gas. Then he recommends avoiding fruit which is hilarious since anatomically humans are frugivores (fruit eaters) like all primates except gorillas. He suggests cooking your vegetables. Heating foods destroys far more nutrients and creates carcinogens. There are numerous books that offer better nutritional advice such as Living Foods for Optimal Health (Clement), the China Study (Campbell), the Food Revolution (Robbins), and 12 Days to Dynamic Health (McDougall). Lastly, the author recommends the snake oil product Audya Clarity. I still have an email from one of their distributors (Matthew Monarch) apologizing for selling an unsafe product containing heavy metals. I think people are mystified by the razzle dazzle of having their water separate into different layers. People forget it’s incredibly difficult to just consume one layer. I tried that water once after removing what was supposed to be discarded and it still tasted like chemicals to me. He also mentioned brixing your food which basically measures the opacity of your food, so a piece of obsidian rock (not food) would score very high and a green grape (definitely edible) would score very low. Measuring nutrition is far more complicated and multifactorial. However, you can measure the curlian energy of something (energy field) with the right equipment. One of the most reliable instruments ever made is the human tongue. Bad food tastes off or bland. However, this obviously won’t work on lab creations like Pringles and McDonald’s anything. It does however work great if you’re comparing two whole apples from different farms of the same variety, for example. Okay, all that aside, this doctor clearly means well and his anthroposophic and farming background were appreciated. I also thought that his assertion that water is in a crystalline structure (4th state) inside cells is plausible and I’d forgotten hearing that once or twice before.

Well researched, based on life-long family doctor experience. Genuine, practical, without being dogmatic. A holistic jewel. Thank you, Thomas Cowan.

Informative book about the dangers of vaccines and why it is causing auto immune sickness in our children like autism rot eczema. What I missed was a deeper advice in how to guide the childhood sickness and treat fevers. I also was hoping to receive more information about the substance apparently introduced in vaccines that “clouds the soul”. This was the opening quote from Rudolf Steiner in this book.

food for thought. shortcuts like vaccines will likely have long term ramifications for the biology humanity still knows so little about....

The most insightful book I have come across in a long time! Packed with fascinating scientific history and research, well written, soundly argued and clearly presented. I hope one day that the information outlined here will make it into better and more honest history and science textbooks!
