Book club pick…

The team at Good Morning America picked Margarita Montimore’s “Oona Out of Order” for their Cover to Cover Book Club. It follows Oona Lockhart, who goes from 19 to 51 years old one New Year’s Eve, and then leaps through time to a random age in her life with every passing year. “I know the whole world feels like it's out of order right now, and social distancing is tough, but join ‘GMA’s’ Book Club and we’ll all feel less isolated as we get lost in this uplifting story,” the author said in GMA’s announcement post.

Description

Oona Out of Order is a remarkably inventive novel that explores what it means to live a life fully in the moment, even if those moments are out of sequence.

Just because life may be out of order, doesn't mean it's broken.

It's New Year's Eve 1982, and Oona Lockhart has her whole life before her. At the stroke of midnight she will turn nineteen, and the year ahead promises to be one of consequence. Should she go to London to study economics, or remain at home in Brooklyn to pursue her passion for music and be with her boyfriend? As the countdown to the New Year begins, Oona faints and awakens thirty-two years in the future in her fifty-one-year-old body. Greeted by a friendly stranger in a beautiful house she's told is her own, Oona learns that with each passing year she will leap to another age at random. And so begins Oona Out of Order...

Hopping through decades, pop culture fads, and much-needed stock tips, Oona is still a young woman on the inside but ever changing on the outside. Who will she be next year? Philanthropist? Club Kid? World traveler? Wife to a man she's never met?

Surprising, magical, and heart-wrenching, Margarita Montimore has crafted an unforgettable story about the burdens of time, the endurance of love, and the power of family.

Enjoyable, a little too Time Traveler’s Wife. Worth the read.

It's a sweet read about life's trials and tribulations. How circumstances can feel all encapsulating one moment but give it time and you'll come to find out what really matters. This book helped give me a fresh perspective.

Loved it. Well defined characters, not a dull moment in it.

I really liked it. Though i have lots of questions of why it started at 18, why does she need to write letters to future selves (she should know what happen). It's very easy to start a ripple effect and change her future.
I guess all these questions makes it an interesting book. Also it's an easy book to read.

Good book, but we are stuck with an annoying narrator. She uses the same intonation and emotion on all characters.

I listened to quickly wish I had some left. Makes you be more grateful and appreciate life.

Fun concept but the protagonist is really unlikeable and hard to root for

This was my very first so I wasnt sure about it, but I loved this story audio or not. The narrator was perfect. I enjoyed every minute. Brilliant!

An easy-to-read escape with a satisfying ending that has just enough gravitas to make you think. The nature of the approach leads to an interesting second read.

Fun romp through Oona’s life. The time periods were familiar and easy to lose myself in. Thoroughly enjoyed it.

Loved this book so much, truly did not want it to end.
  • (3/5)
Meh. I would have preferred more of a climax.

When I read the title I was like uhm what? Then I read the summary and still thought hmmm.... Then I started the book and found it hard to stop... A good book to let everything be for a while.

DNF @chapter 3. I'm definitely an unpopular opinion with this one. I found Oona very whiny and annoying, and was mostly bored with the story. Unfortunately, this was way overhyped for me.

I want more Oona!! I love time travel stories and this is one of my favorites. So engaging and surprising.

Chick lit, all right. But such great chick lit. Takes you through the times and motions of a woman tricked by time. Like we all are somehow.
