Description

A New York Times bestseller

Perfect for fans of Me Before You and One Day—a striking, powerful, and moving love story following an ambitious lawyer who experiences an astonishing vision that could change her life forever.

Where do you see yourself in five years?

Dannie Kohan lives her life by the numbers.

She is nothing like her lifelong best friend—the wild, whimsical, believes-in-fate Bella. Her meticulous planning seems to have paid off after she nails the most important job interview of her career and accepts her boyfriend's marriage proposal in one fell swoop, falling asleep completely content.

But when she awakens, she's suddenly in a different apartment, with a different ring on her finger, and beside a very different man. Dannie spends one hour exactly five years in the future before she wakes again in her own home on the brink of midnight—but it is one hour she cannot shake. In Five Years is an unforgettable love story, but it is not the one you're expecting.

About the author

Rebecca Serle is a full-time writer, which means she gets to wear pajamas to work. She went to the University of Southern California, then got her MFA from the New School in NYC. (She likes New York much more than LA, but don’t tell anyone that.) Rebecca loves shiny hair, coffee, yoga, and pretending to be British. She, too, experienced heartbreak once. It worked out okay, though, because she turned the experience into a book.

Just overall meh…. Not exactly what I thought I was getting myself I to and the ending was just not what I was hoping for.
  • (1/5)
Disappointing. The plot is weak and the premise is just a teaser for you to get to the end in hopes of a redeeming end. It doesn't pay off. Glad it was short at least.

Great book! Unexpected ending! Didn’t want to put it down!

What a waste of time! I would
not recommend this to anyone. The entire time I spent just waiting for something to happen… but nothing happened.

I loved the book! In five years, a book about love, friendship, and how life can quickly change in a blink of an eye. Dannie has a perfect life, the job of her dreams, and is engaged. But, Dannie has a dream that takes place 5 years into her future. Her dream is about altering her life in ways that she never predicted.

I loved the twist at the end. I wasn't expecting it, and it had me emotional.

I found this book so touching, beautifully written and a very compelling story. I finished it way too quickly being too interested in how the story would conclude. I will definitely be seeking out this writer! And recommending this book to all my friends, a very poignant story that had me guessing until the end. Absolutely loved it!

I loved this story. The truly wonderful friendships, the romantic relationships, and the storyline all drew me in. It took me a bit to actually get into this book, but I am so glad I did. Also, I liked the reader very much.you might want a tissue.

OMG, could not stop listening to this book. It’s very sad in parts but very real and raw!

A wonderful tale of love and friendship! Enjoyed it all.

You just need to listen, no judgement, you will smile and feel a piece of ease and calm settle over you at the end.

I say this especially given the state of our world.

Excellent narration! If I could I would give 10 stars on narration. Felt like my favorite friend was reading to me.

I guess the rest is just left to your perspective. Now that NO ONE BUT YOU CAN CHANGE!

    Enjoy!!

The realization of the story . To live someone so much and the bond of true friendships.

Ughhh read this with my sister. We were excited to get back into reading together.

Super super slow narrative. Honestly this is the least favorite book I've ever read.

Very boring. Kept reading waiting for something to happen but nope.

I only forced myself to get through it since my sister was reading it too.

Dumb. And protagonist annoying. Not clear why anyone is so taken with her

Heart wrenching but such a beautiful story about love and friendship. Really enjoyed it!

Everything. Everything was good! Just a beautiful story and reading.
  • (5/5)
Comforting predictability with some interesting turns. A story of love and friendship. Highly recommend!

I love a good book that pulls at your heartstrings and this book did just that and so much more. Likeable, relatable characters and the writing was fantastic. I listened to the audio and the narration was on point. I highly highly recommend this! 5 beautiful, heartbreaking stars.

I was wrapped up in this one from the beginning. A beautiful story with a crazy plot twist. Which circles you back to see just why things happen. I loved the characters and the way the narrator brought them to life for me.

I thought I knew where this book was going and I did not and was not ready and I’ve been crying for two days over it. Beautiful book, beautiful story. I love Megan Hilty and her work as a Broadway actress so hearing her voice as Danny was perfect, but I couldn’t distinguish her characters sometimes especially with the men. I really needed this book with what’s going on with my life and this helped some. Be prepared listeners/readers, this book hurts you

This book was a wonderful! Literally had me in tears. I was sad when I finished this beautiful story. Highly recommend. ?
  • (4/5)
I liked how this novel has diversity, both in character development and emotions. There are grief and sadness, but warmth and a sense of lovingness are also apparent to the readers/listeners. In the end, the book made closure because Dani (the protagonist) said to let it be and she wanted to stop predicting about the future, to live it as is. I enjoyed reading that because that is the sole purpose of our existence. I would also say that the most significant part about this book was the concept of seeing one's future without knowing what truly led to that life in five years.
  • (3/5)
Not super predictable, but still kind of flat lined at the end. Good easy read for driving and other multitasking. Overall I would recommend to some of my friends.
  • (4/5)
I never thought a spin-off of "I woke up from a dream" scene would keep me interested. Sure, it's a cliche, but the back-and-forth between the dream and the reality kept me wanting to know how things would progress. Dannie Kohen's fiance and her other guy interest were a little flat and passive for me, but the build up and then unanswered questions kept me reading. I was especially drawn to the friendship of Dannie and Bella, and beyond the love story, I was drawn to their story. I finished this book fast as an audio book.

I almost didn’t continue reading this book because the first 1/3 really didn’t have me connected or interested. However, once I understood that the book was a story about something other than what I was expecting I really loved it.
