About this audiobook

A deliciously funny, remarkably poignant “beach read to end all beach reads” (Entertainment Weekly) about the power of friendship, the lure of frenemies, and the importance of making peace with yourself through all of life’s ups and downs—from the #1 New York Times bestselling author of Good in Bed and Best Friends Forever.

Six years after the fight that ended their friendship, Daphne Berg is shocked when Drue Cavanaugh walks back into her life, looking as lovely and successful as ever, with a massive favor to ask. Daphne hasn’t spoken one word to Drue in all this time—she doesn’t even hate-follow her ex-best friend on social media—so when Drue asks if she will be her maid-of-honor at the society wedding of the summer, Daphne is rightfully speechless.

Drue was always the one who had everything—except the ability to hold onto friends. Meanwhile, Daphne’s no longer the same self-effacing sidekick she was back in high school. She’s built a life that she loves, including a growing career as a plus-size Instagram influencer. Letting glamorous, seductive Drue back into her life is risky, but it comes with an invitation to spend a weekend in a waterfront Cape Cod mansion. When Drue begs and pleads and dangles the prospect of cute single guys, Daphne finds herself powerless as ever to resist her friend’s siren song.

A sparkling, “insightful page-turner” (Real Simple) about the complexities of female relationships, the pitfalls of living out loud and online, and the resilience of the human heart, Big Summer is a witty, moving story about family, friendship, and figuring out what matters most.

This would have been a 4 star read for sure except the narration was AWFUL! So many mispronounced words. Such a shame. Great story but ai suggest reading in print.

I was half driven to madness by the narrator reading this book who pronounced every “t” sound with a “d”. For example, instead of button she pronounced it buddon.

Any other narrator. “Manhadden.” She ruined it for me, ?

The narrator ruins this book. The way she says ‘cotton’ and ‘capsule’ is grating my last nerve.

    Loved this book!
BUT I have a real problem with the audio. The reader pronounces her Ts as Ds and it was so distracting and hard to take it seriously. This is this woman’s JOB and she can’t pronounce basic words like “kitten”???? So frustrating. Or should I say, frustrading…?

Full of useless details, poor/unbelievable motivations and white people who feel sorry for themselves. Initial storyline had potential and the reviews were good so I pressed onwards. There was no climax and a random and disappointing resolution. Don't bother.

Predicable and annoying characters. Engaging enough to finish but I won’t ever reread.

I’m only on chapter 3 right now. How the narrator got the job is a mystery. She is generally good, but needs diction coaching. She can’t seem to pronounce the letter T. Very annoying.
    Example -the word
    button: buddon
Wonder how she got the job?

This book dragged on and I felt very immature. It was difficult to get through. The end was not worth the time spent.

I hated this. So boring and so uninteresting how it ended. Wish I didn’t read it.

Perfect summer read. Quick read, and just what I hoped to experience on my deck, in the sun, iced tea in hand.

The reader needs to enunciate better. She reminded me of someone from Oklahoma. The book is a beach read, not great but not terrible. The writing is generally on the lighter side with a murder mystery component towards the second half of the book.

I thought it had some good exploration and themes. Pretty standard story line but had some nice layers. Think it was a great way to portray the power of influence, money, and looks. Some trigger warning for eating disorder behaviors and trauma experiences if those are challenging for some readers.

It had it all; relevant topics, lovable/relatable characters, sinister/realistic villains; love and mystery. Perfect summer read!

I have mixed feelings about this book. What I like is that the book deals with body-shaming issues. I like the narration. But the first part of the book is a bit of a drag. End of part 1 comes with a plot twist which brings in a little hope that the story will pick up from there. Part 2 onwards we are solving a murder mystery. There is a genre switch halfway through the book. I had no idea that this book is a mystery. The plot twist in the end didnt come as a huge shock (which I highly expect of a good murder mystery).

The protagonist being an instagram influencer is quite relatable and the theme of friendship, identifying your true self, is done up nicely. But on the romance front, the story is a bit of a disappointment.

Mean Girls meets Cape Cod. I like the level of detail the author uses when describing what the characters see and feel.

What a good old-fashioned Chick Lit! I absolutely loved it. It has been a while since I have read a book comparable to “Good in Bed” and “In Her Shoes.” Daphne Berg becomes a social media influencer totally on accident when her BFF (maybe not so much) Drue Cavanaugh fat shames her at a bar and the video of the incident goes viral. Six years later, a perfect, rich, mean girl, Drue tracks down Daphne and invites her to be part of her lavish wedding to a reality tv star. The story unfolds into disastrous wedding antics, a hot secretive love interest for Daphne, and believe it or not a mystery. I loved every minute of this book and the narrator, Danielle MacDonald, just made the minutes/chapters fly by. I am a sucker for any books that take place in Cape Cod or Nantucket. The visual imagery of the Cape was perfect, Route 6, Brewster, Provincetown, Truro, absolutely loved it. I think my favorite character was Darshini Shah, Daphne’s true best friend from high school and roommate. She’s smart, witty, and does not hold anything back. And like a true friend, she is there for Drue when she needs her most. Great fast summer read, it put a smile on my face, made me laugh out loud, and even made me blush.

It was a good story. The main character is a relatable influence for this generation, but it seemed the author was all over the place. Not sticking with one genre, it seemed to be trying to hard to be something different.

I worked straight through this book on a big project I had to finish. Entertaining, enlightening through sometimes subtle sometimes obvious and big subjects. Offering different points of view and experience in lives. Thank you and enjoy!

The narrator was irritating - she pronounced almonds as owl-mins and button as buddon and cotton as codden. The story was meh, I rolled my eyes a lot. Maybe I would have liked it better when I was 20 and read it in print? I prefer more substance to my books though.

Disappointing, and especially hard to listen to so many mispronunciations. Instead of button, it’s mispronounced “buddin”, and written is mispronounced “ridden”. Just awful to listen to.
