Description

When Claire sees Hannah Wilson at an exclusive Manhattan hair salon, it's like a knife slicing through barely healed scars. It may have been 10 years since Claire last saw Hannah, but she has thought of her every day, and not in a good way. So Claire does what anyone would do in her position — she stalks her.

Hannah is now Mrs. Carter, living the charmed life that should have been Claire's. It's the life Claire used to have before Hannah came along and took it all away from her.

Back then, Claire was a happy teenager with porcelain skin and long blond wavy hair. Now she's an overweight, lazy drunk with hair the color of compost and skin to match. And that’s why when Hannah advertises for a housekeeper, Claire is confident she can apply and not be recognized — especially since she has time on her hands, revenge on her mind, and a talent for acting....

What better way to seek retribution — and redress — than from within the beautiful Mrs. Hannah Carter's own home?

But it's not just Claire who has secrets. Everyone in that house seems to have something to hide.

And now, there's no way out.

Narrator sounded way too old for the character. The voices she put on were pretty annoying. Storyline poor anyway.

Took awhile to get into story. Last half became interesting. Ending very suspenseful.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. The dialogue was believable, the suspense captivating. I look forward to listening to other works by this author.

One of those hard to put down books. Its agreeable that the voice of the narrator didn't match that of the main character but I have to admit I enjoyed the sarcasm. Wonderful twist at the end. Never would have guessed it. This book kept me anxious and wanting to find out what would happen next.

I agree with others that the narrator's voice was too mature for a 24 year old character. Aside from that the story was very interesting and I couldn't wait to see what ended up happening. Worth reading/listening to!

This book was so drawn out and ridiculous. I wouldn’t recommend it.

I enjoyed this book so much! The narrator did a great job, however, her voice did not fit the character. If you push past it it will be worth it! Kept me interested into the last page.

I really enjoyed this story. Lots of twists and turns to keep you in your toes. The reason I only gave 4 stars were
    1. The main character, Claire, is supposed to be 24. However, in my opinion she has insights of someone who is older. That's my opinion though - thinking about when I was 24. ?
    2. While I think the narrator did a good job, her voice did not sound like the voice of a 24 year old woman. Instead she sounds like a mid to late 40 year old woman who's enjoyed a few parties in her day.
All in all though - good story.

Twist at the end that you don’t see coming! Claire and Hannah could be annoying but so worth you pushing thru. Will definitely look for more by this author.

It was filled with suspense and I loved The heart touching ending

Interesting book with a great twist that I didn't see coming!

Wow!!, took me a chapter or two to get into it, but then it just took off, great story, great narrator

Its got ups and downs but overall keeps your interest. Listened to it during my runs.

I don't ever write reviews, but this book was so good!! Never saw the ending coming. What an amazing twist. It was really easy to listen too. Author and reader did a really great job. Can't wait to listen to more from this author.

Loved the twist and how it all tied together really good narrative! Highly recommend.

Great little novel! Once again Natalie keeps us scratching our heads trying to figure out who’s the bad guy and who’s the good guy! Natalies characters are never the perfect prince or princess. They are instead real people, with complicated pasts and complex feelings. They are capable of both good and evil like we as humans actually are. Great work Natalie!

I enjoyed the point of view and being in Claire’s head. It kept me wanting to know what she would do next and it had a great plot twist!

Great read! I couldn’t put it down! Loved the ending.
  • (5/5)
Great book many twist and turns but good from start to finish.
  • (5/5)
Such great writing and narration! The narrator sounds much older than the main character (24) but, since the main character, Claire, is from New York, I can let that go as the narrator has a perfect New Yorker attitude and accent. She mis-pronounced 2 words (locale and consummate) but, because the story made me want to get away to listen to it- which I can only do at work, that says something about how good it is. This is definitely five star book.

The biggest challenge I had was really with the audiobook narrator. I found it hard to believe she was a 24 year old. And the voice she used for Hannah was so irritating. Eventually I got used to it. There was a bit of a twist, of course, but it made it interesting. The last quarter of the book was probably the best. The wrap up was a bit too neat, but satisfying enough. I’ll definitely read the author again.

Great unexpected twist. Very good one to listen too. I highly recommend ?

Great mystery novel! It kept me guessing up until the very end!

This book had me frozen in my bed, suspended like I was held by thread as I became scared listening - I haven’t had a book do that to me in a long time.

The biggest thing for me at the beginning was getting over the main character’s voice. When the character is described as young 20’s it sounded like someone twice the age. Maybe I heard the age incorrect so the next reviewer can clarify or maybe they did that for the effect of someone having a hard life.

Very well written and truly keeps you intrigued until the end. Enjoy!

Very good listen! Highly entertaining!! Excellent narration. I listened to another book by this author, Missing Molly, which was good, but the author really outdoes herself with this one.

I listened to this while puttering around my apartment one afternoon, and it was an afternoon of pure enjoyment. Couldn’t stop giggling, especially for the first two thirds of the book, it was so outrageous!

I will say I was disappointed in the ending, so I had to take away a star for that. Still a good listen, though, and would recommend if you like dark, sinister, psychological twisty.

Why does this have such high ratings? The main character is completely unlikable. She spends 90% of the book whining and scheming with the most juvenile revenge plot possible. Then the book twists without being convincing and wraps up suddenly. Absolutely awful.
