About the author

Andrea Lucas is the founder of Barre & Soul, a barre and yoga studio with five locations in the Boston area, as well as an athletic-wear clothing brand. Barre & Soul started in a 700-square foot space she could barely afford to rent. The company was founded with grit, willpower, copious amounts of caffeine, and a desire to change women’s lives―helping them to build confidence and strength. Since opening day, Barre & Soul has grown into a thriving business with 184 classes per week, a team of about 85 employees, a fitness clothing line, annual retreats in the Caribbean, and a loyal fan base that includes over 12,000 Barre & Soul newsletter subscribers. In addition to running Barre & Soul, Lucas is also the mom of two kids, a feminist, and a writer who covers topics like gender equality, domestic violence, women’s rights, and women’s empowerment. She has been featured in Forbes, Entrepreneur, HuffPost, and xoJane. She has a BA in Women’s Studies from Lesley University, studied circus yoga and aerial yoga, and spent some time performing in a burlesque troupe. She is known in Boston―and online―as a speaker, writer, and role model who is determined to help women realize their potential. You can find her online at AndreaIsabelleLucas.com and BarreSoul.com

This book was well organized and interesting. There is a bonus section on the internet that includes a workbook that you can download from her website. The book includes various interviews that she had with successful women that are motivating. It was fun to see how she grew from a young woman with many problems and no money to a multimillion dollar business owner.

This book was incredibly empowering and I read books like this bimonthly. The information was approachable and practical with reasonable steps and suggested actions to implement true growth and change. Many self improvement books lack in one area or another - this one has it all. One of the best books I have ever encountered. Will be buying the book to have a hard copy and also listening to the audiobook again. Had no idea who the author was prior to this book but will be paying attention to what she does next. She reads the audiobook herself which makes it more authentic in my opinion.

Hands down my favorite Scribd book and I am a two year member. So glad this crossed my path.

I’m not sure what it was about the book but it didn’t seem to offer anything that hasn’t been said over and over in other books. And it seemed pretty shallow. I’m not questioning the difficulties and barriers in the authors life, it just rang shallow in some areas. Perhaps I didn’t give it enough time as I didn’t listen all the way through. I stopped when she gave the example of Hillary Clinton and then stated how history would have been forever changed if someone with Hillary’s intellect would have dropped out of college. In my opinion there are far greater examples of intellect and history changers then Hillary Clinton, but perhaps Hillary’s life and actions represent the pinnacle of success for this author.
