About this audiobook

Lonely and creative outcast Charlotte Winters perfected the art of being invisible in high school. To escape her everyday torment, she created James, the perfect, handsome, and loving imaginary boyfriend to soothe her soul from her past.

But when she discovers hottie billionaire Jake Lipton, the spitting image of imaginary James, Charlotte’s world is thrown into question. Kind, grounded, and delicious Jake is everything Charlotte craves in a partner.

But their connection seems too good to be true. Fighting to keep herself and Jake safe, Charlotte must confront her past if she is to have any hope at a future.

Author

Ana James

Ana James is a UK-born, NYC-based writer who decided to make a dramatic exit from the make-believe world of advertising so that she could make an equally as dramatic entrance into the world of romance writing. She’s passionate about creating universes that readers can get comfortably, deliciously lost in. Her characters are like the people in her own life: brilliant, loving weirdos and the people who love(?) them. When she’s not writing, she’s pretending to do keto, watching Bob’s Burgers marathons with her daughter, or trying to win 100-yard-dash races in Prospect Park against that same daughter.

Prepare to be missing half, the two MCs are finally together at literally the last sentence…the author leaves you hanging totally. It’s a long book but I held out hoping for a more satisfying ending.

Annoying book & characters. Could’ve been so much better. Disappointing!

I don’t think I would read another book by this author. Charlotte was very frustrating I was ready to stop listening. Her defeatist attitude and woe is me was just to much. She explained and talked too much. The premise was good but the execution was bad.

Charlie is one of my favorite heroines since Eliza Bennet. Ana James channels the same strong spirit and character, Charlie has her own (young) independent mind. Plus this a fun read, from an authoress who clearly understands teenagers and teenage romance. Very lovable and believable. Great read, I look forward to a sequel.

I was disappointed with how the story went. The ending was so vague and not telling what happened. It left a opening for a second book. Charlotte talked way to much. All the detail of things that didn’t need to be said and she kept repeating what happened in her past. Way to much sadness then happiness for me.

It started off promising and overall it wasn't a bad story. I did enjoy most of it but quickly got frustrated. Charlotte was a dingbat starting in the middle of the story. I literally screamed at the 2 main characters a few times while reading which helps me like and dislike the story. The ending seemed unfinished. I had to listen to the epilogue like 5 times but it still didn't make sense- it didn't match what happened in the last chapter so it feels like a gaping hole. As the reader, I don't have any resolution to the story. I may need to listen to it again.

This is the first time I’ll be leaving such Low rate.
    What the hell??
The story was promising, at the start.
But damn I can’t get myself to like it. I almost did. The middle part was almost bearable. But the ending or how they handle things ? Or how much the female lead explained to much of everything. I felt like it was such a waste of time.

This story had potential. HORRIBLE ending!! The two main characters needed a much more clear interactive resolve.

This story has a lot of promise and I enjoyed the premise but you really have to pay attention or you will get lost.

The first third of the story is essentially YA as it follows the MCs through their last year of High School.

The second third is PG13 NA as it follows the h through her early 20s.

The last third is NA and contains a medium high heat factor.

The ending is both extremely rushed and excruciatingly dragged out. There is 20 seconds to a minute of retrospect, angst or head babble between each statement which had me periodically skipping forward. The ending happens over the last five minutes and leaves some loose ends, especially involving the OW drama.

The author definitely has talent and I am looking forward to listening to some of her future stories. I would love to see the last chapter modified to reflect on what happens to the OW and would have preferred that the video was used... but that is just me. ?
