About this audiobook

For Fans of Julia Glass and Ann Hood, a Novel about How the Choices We Make Last a Lifetime. Vegas Girls begins when three former high school friends, now in their mid-thirties, reunite in their hometown of Las Vegas—a city they vowed to escape as soon as they could—to celebrate their new lives and revisit old haunts. But what starts out as a week-long, sun-kissed reunion takes a strange turn as mysterious gifts appear, familiar faces pop up in unexpected places, and each woman reveals a secret, private quest. Ramona is searching for a son she gave up for adoption before their high-school graduation. Jane is trying to leave her husband of eleven years, even with her two kids in tow. And Ivy, who has a new baby, is haunted by the memory of her mother abandoning her twenty years ago—and she has begun spotting her everywhere. Add to this a darkly charismatic ex-boyfriend of Ivy’s who won’t give up hope of rekindling their romance, and a strange, new friend of Jane’s in need of help, and the week quickly begins to unravel. Set against desert heat, swimming pools, and casino lights, and told masterfully through five different points of view, Vegas Girls is about how we navigate the present while carrying the ghosts of our past; about growing up with one eye glued to the rearview mirror; and about what happens when the past you thought you left behind turns out to have been with you all along.

Ok story line Confusing at times with all the names. The book just ends with no real ending.

This is a storyline of friendship, uncertainty, and finding oneself.

Great story of old friends, new friends, marriage, divorce and how so many things can change in your life and few remain the same. That nostalgia we all feel when a song comes on from your childhood, or a smell that reminds you of a beloved grandparent. So bitter sweet. Great narration

Meh?? This might’ve been a book that I would’ve enjoyed had I read it instead of audio. Though the narrator did a good job of storytelling- the characters just seemed whiney and blah. Just really didn’t feel invested in them. Sounded like a 30 something mid-life crisis. The characters were supposed to be best friends since high school but seemed pretty surface. Lots of loose ends. Or more like strings that should’ve been pulled in the storylines but wasn’t.

As a Vegas local, it was fun that the author used real street names, neighborhoods, parks, etc. because I quite often thought, “Ok cool- I know where they’re at right now”, but besides that, the story lines of each person was so unfortunately boring. There didn’t seem to be a real plot- just normal people dealing with real-life problems that did or did not result in a resolution. I love reading/listening to books, as they are a great way for me to escape my own reality for a while… but this novel didn’t do it for me. I appreciate that the author wanted to speak on certain personal struggles/family issues/uncomfortable situations/ unwelcome feelings that many people (if not all) experience, but I was hoping to get more excitement from a novel titled “Vegas Girls”.

The book was ok - easy read. But the narrator for the audio book was borderline unbearable. She had a choppy cadence - sometimes too slow and sometimes too fast. Really really annoying.

It was good, but, I wasn’t sure where they were all going. Maybe too many characters, so all over the place.

I just kept waiting for something to happen. And when it did, it was anticlimactic and somewhat like wait, what?? Would give 0 stars if I could. Sorry ??

Anticlimactic. I kept expecting some sort of twist or something but there was nothing.

This was one of the most boring books I have ever listened to. There was really no plot just rambling on about boring lives of three women. No conflict resolution. Not sure what the point was.

It was a decent way to pass the time. A coming of age type story that held my interest. I liked it and the narration was ok… her cadence and inflections at odd times could be grating.

Wondering back and forth, this story weaves the lives of ordinary people making decisions. Some made change their lives, others stayed as they were.

Easy listen. It was current and realistic. I felt like the character development was quick yet thorough. Not unpredictable I’m the traditional sense but not rote. Good writing. Happy!

It very well written and delivered, explores a wide range of emotions and trouble in life that simply don't have any solution.
    I enjoyed it.
