Mostly really enjoyable, cool twists and apocalypse scenario, the ending was going great until it was quite literally cut off suddenly! Narrator was great.

The plot is surprisingly compelling, given that it is absolutely the worst, most braindead writing, dialog, and general use of the English language I've ever read in a novel. Such weird and cringey phrasing. Such hackneyed and remedial characterization. And then the awkward sexist representation of the female mind. The main character is a 20-something "girl" written like a 13 year old. It should be analyzed in Creative Writing classes. At first I thought it was an R-rated story intended for children. Then I thought maybe a precocious child wrote it. Nope. And then the reader of the audiobook has this obnoxious breathy style, with another layer of strange emoting. The author and his editor should be embarrassed. But I finished the first book, and they made a show from it, so... This author needs a co-writer to take his good plot ideas and turn them into less profoundly embarrassing prose.

Was an entertaining read, but it abruptly ended with some aspects of the plot unresolved.

The book suddenly ended. Many loose ends. The last half of the last book was a huge disappointment.

Beginning Book II. I REALLY want to finish this series as I feel like it has a great deal of promise. Interesting cast of characters with unique personalities which add a lot of depth to the narrative.

BUT...the main character, Summer, is ASTOUNDINGLY annoying, infuriating, ignorant, childish, petulant, outrageously stupid, did I say annoying? Aggravating, irritating, obnoxious.

I'm going to keep slogging through it, but literally everything about her character, her thoughts, her dialogue, the choices she makes, is so remarkably dumb that one has to wonder how the author thought portraying his main character this way wouldn't be problematic.

EDIT: Nope. Can't do it. She absolutely sucks. Ruins the entire story. Literally just nothing but childish, immature outbursts that goes entirely unchecked because she's the "leader". Super disappointing.

A Tumbler - on the plus side the character list is extensive and refined and I had some definite favourites. The story? Well yes there was a storyline. It ebbed and flowed. I found it to be very slow to begin with. I kept with it to the explosive end… 4/5 stars

I can’t finish this book, there are three books in this one but I can’t complete the first book. I can’t stand the main female character. She is selfish, manipulative and stupid, which would be tolerable if she was a teenager… SHE IS NOT. She only thinks about and cares about herself. Her comfort, her pleasure, her peace of mind. Also ok if she was a teen and they weren’t living in a post apocalyptic world.

And the idea that she becomes a leader is intolerable based solely on her unacceptable behavior in this first book. Please know I do have character prejudices, as we all do, and this is just my opinion so please don’t let me stop you. And I will try some other books by the author before I count him out.
