About this audiobook

In an enthralling new historical novel from national bestselling author Kate Quinn, two women—a female spy recruited to the real-life Alice Network in France during World War I and an unconventional American socialite searching for her cousin in 1947—are brought together in a mesmerizing story of courage and redemption.

1947. In the chaotic aftermath of World War II, American college girl Charlie St. Clair is pregnant, unmarried, and on the verge of being thrown out of her very proper family. She's also nursing a desperate hope that her beloved cousin Rose, who disappeared in Nazi-occupied France during the war, might still be alive. So when Charlie's parents banish her to Europe to have her "little problem" taken care of, Charlie breaks free and heads to London, determined to find out what happened to the cousin she loves like a sister.

1915. A year into the Great War, Eve Gardiner burns to join the fight against the Germans and unexpectedly gets her chance when she's recruited to work as a spy. Sent into enemy-occupied France, she's trained by the mesmerizing Lili, the "Queen of Spies", who manages a vast network of secret agents right under the enemy's nose.

Thirty years later, haunted by the betrayal that ultimately tore apart the Alice Network, Eve spends her days drunk and secluded in her crumbling London house. Until a young American barges in uttering a name Eve hasn't heard in decades, and launches them both on a mission to find the truth...no matter where it leads.

Editor's Note

All the feels…

Set in post-WWII Europe, “The Alice Network” brings together two women from different generations and backgrounds. With espionage, scandal, redemption, and rage-provoking examples of at least five ‘isms,’ the story has a bingability score equivalent to “Game of Thrones: Season One.” In other words, get ready to stay up all night reading and feel all the feelings.

Sorry. Chapter 15 and can’t do it any longer. Maybe if I read paper book and skip some parts ? I really wanted to like it. But it is just so monotone. There are lots of descriptions on other reviews. But this is my confession.....

I did listen all the way through, if only to leave this review to tell you not to bother. The characters aren’t likable at all, it is full of sex with young women and older men, and the story is extremely far fetched and full of coincidences that aren’t believable. Very little interesting history as I might have hoped with a historical fiction novel. The author spent more time talking about sex than developing the characters and researching events of the time period. There are many more books worth a listen. Not this one.

I usually love historical fiction. Especially in this era. But, this book sort of annoyed me with the repetition of unusual phrases and names. "Little Problem, Luger, Lagonda etc." Just being too picky I am sure.

I’m a big fan of historical fiction, but I found this book lacking. One of the storylines (Eve’s story in 1915) is brilliant and I wish the entire book could have been about her and the spy network. Chalie’s story in 1947 was unnecessary, long and boring.

It doesn’t make any sense that Charlie would go to such lengths to look for her cousin that no one else seems to care about. Their relationship was not portrayed well enough to justify. Why does Finn like Charlie? she has no personality or traits other than being pregnant and looking for her cousin. Mostly, she's an entitled brat, and he's perfect except for his angry outbursts that no one ever seems to mention ever again? If he miraculously fixed?

This book really didn’t need to be as long as it is, and after the 70% point it was difficult to get through until the ending which was good, albeit predictable.

The beginning was a little slow but about the middle it got really good and I loved the end. A sad story but very well written.
