Starting if I can remember rightly with Thomas the tank engine, and on through Oscar Wilde, Tolkien, and Stephen King among many others.
You name it, I read it: and the more books I read, the more I grew to dislike in fantasy books the boring prince: or the blue-eyed upper-class hero type who always leads the weary peasants to victory in battle. Or the soppy wizard who always uses magic to get out of difficult situations.
I like characters like Raymond Chandler’s, Philip Marlowe, and Tolkien’s Smeagol. Captain Hook and Hannibal Lecter and C.S. Lewis’s the White Witch.
I have now written two fantasy books of my own, The Great Marquess and The Knights Of The Shire and I am now writing my third book, The Black Witch.view less
