In addition, she holds an associate in arts degree in business education from Los Angeles Metropolitan College (now L. A. Trade-Technical College); and a Teaching Certificate from the University of California. Barbara Hobbs is a retired community relations employee from the Los Angeles Community Colleges where she worked for thirty-seven long years; worked in corporate America for four years in the early 1960s. Upon retirement, Hobbs served as a volunteer reading-by-9 tutor for the Los Angeles Unified School District. Barbara later joined the Book Club at A.C. Bilbrew Library of the Los Angeles County. She’s been an avid reader and a prolific writer ever since age nine; became a Sunday school secretary at age 12, following in the footsteps of her oldest late sister and mentor, Alma.
Barbara Hobbs’ literary achievements include her self-published book of poetry, in 1996, entitled Conquering Obstacles. In 2008, Hobbs parachuted her unfailing faith and published her first book of short stories and universal poems called Black America, 1956-1966: The Break -Through Period. Brick by brick, she built up “the audacity of hope;” became brave enough to write and publish her first American story, Insights: America’s Voters-At-Large. Barbara Hobbs had the honor of receiving a “thank you letter” from President Obama for two poems that she wrote and forwarded to the Obama’s entitled: Inauguration 2009: Rainbow America and Mr. President ‘n First Lady: 2009-2012.view less
