The memoir reveals how their childhood and later life influenced them to seek justice for others and how their experience at the University of California at Berkeley during the tumultuous post-World War II period reinforced that commitment. Their learning and perspective were further honed at the University of Chicago for Irving and at the Universities of Hawaii and Michigan for Wilma. With advanced degrees they became an academic couple that enjoyed teaching and published books and articles and presented papers at professional conferences from Tromso, Norway to Seoul, Korea. They describe what goes on in university departments and with students, and Irving relates his experiences as a Department Chair.
