P. y familiarmente se concoce como Manuelita. Cursó estudios en el Colegio San José y en el Holy Name College de Oakland, CA, EEUU. A fines de la década del '40 inició su carrera como periodista en los diarios locales, siendo su seudónimo Madelag. Laboró como reportera y mantuvo secciones especiales en El Panamá América, La Estrella de Panamá, El País y la revista Épocas. Por más de diez años dirigió en Radio Programas Continental (RPC) un programa dedicado a la niñez, complementando así la publicación semanal de una Página Infantil que inició en El Panamá América y continuó luego en La Estrella de Panamá. La misma tenía como tema especial El Cuento sin Título de Madelag. Los socios de la Página Infantil participaban semanalmente para elegir el mejor título y el ganador era remunerado por el diario. El círculo de periodistas de México le otorgó Diploma y Placa al Mérito por su labor en pro de la niñez. Madelag continúa manteniendo su labor en los medios de comunicación local e internacional. Por más de veinticinco años desempeño en el Instituto Panameño de Turismo desempeñando el cargo de Directora de Promoción. Recibió Mención Honorífica en el Concurso Nacional de Literatura Ricardo Miró (1958) en la sección de Cuentos al presentar la obra Rombos. Como miembro del Teatro el Círculo, recibió, a nivel nacional, el galardón Crispín Ovalle otorgado como mejor actriz de carácter del año. Durante la celebración del Centenario de Panamá, el Instituto Nacional de Cultura (INAC) publicó una selección de los cuentos infantiles Los Cuentos de Madelag. MADELAG (Emelia Manuela Alemán) was born in Panama City, R. P. and is affectionately known as Manuelita. She graduated from San Jose High School and Holy Name College in Oakland, CA, USA. By the end of the 40’s, she started her career as a journalist in the local newspapers under the pseudonym Madelag. She worked as a reporter and was in charge of special sections in El Panama America, La Estrella de Panama, El Pais and Epocas magazine. For more than ten years she directed a children’s program on Radio Programas Continental (RPC). She also published the weekly Children’s Page that began in El Panama America and later continued in La Estrella de Panama. This column included as a special theme Madelag’s Story without a Title. Each week, the best title was chosen, and the winner was awarded a prize by the newspaper. Mexico’s Journalists’ Circle awarded her an Honorary Diploma for her work in favor of children. For more than twenty-five years she has worked as Promotional Director in the Panamanian Tourism Institute (IPAT according to its Spanish acronym). In 1958, she received Honorable Mention in the Ricardo Miro National Literary Contest in the short story section for her work Rombos. As a member of the Teatro en Circulo (Theatre in the Round), she received the national Crispin Ovalle award as the best character actress of the year. During Panama’s Centennial Celebration, the National Cultural Institute (INAC) published a selection of her children’s stories entitled Los Cuentos de Madelag (Madelag’s Stories).view less
