My childhood goal was to become a profes...view moreI'm originally from Lumberton, North Carolina. Although, I've always enjoyed writing and reading all sorts of books, I never thought of writing as a career. My childhood goal was to become a professional athlete, failing that, a fireman. In high school, I played football, basketball, and ran track. My senior year, I was captain of both the basketball and football teams. I attended Virginia Military Institute on an athletic scholarship and lettered in football in 1986.I left VMI and transferred to Wingate College where the seeds to write were first planted. There, I met Professor Doak who I credit with encouraging me to consider writing. Although, it would be many years and false starts before I'd complete my first story.I eventually left Wingate College, ;now Wingate University)and transferred to North Carolina A&T State University where I earned a BA degree in Communications. I later earned a MA in English at East Carolina University.view less
