I'm an Australian writer, having studied Journalism and Japanese at Swinburne University of Technology in Melbourne, Australia. I've also completed a Bachelor of Social Studies in Psychology and Philosophy.
I've been writing for a number of years, since I was near the end of high school. I was a bit of a late bloomer in this respect, only really finding the obsession of writing a few years ago. When I found Year 12 quite dull I decided to write a different Year 12 and insert myself into the story. It was through this that I discovered the beauty that was writing and the amazing experience that creating something was.
Many of my characters take on characteristics of either myself or people I know. For example the two male protagonists in the first Tales of Aurelia book, Magi Avia: The Void and the Gemstone, Janus and Horus, both have different parts that I recognise within myself. It's a common writer's tool, though I've found that sometimes you can get too attached to characters. Sometimes when you have to kill off a character it's that much harder because you like them. And the world of the Tales of Aurelia series isn't so nice that people aren't going to die at some point.
Despite this, I often find ways to take people I know and pay them homage with characters in my stories. Emerald Avia in my first novel is a character that I changed completely to fit the characteristics of a friend of mine. While I say that, once I started writing her character into the story, she became her own character, while honouring her origins. Sometimes people ask to be placed into my stories and I do my best to accommodate them. But of course, I don't tell them what happens to them. That would ruin the story after all.
Regardless, I love writing in all its forms. If I won the lottery it's all I would do; there are so many different things I want to take the time to write about. Unfortunately the world is not that easy and all writer's have to eat at some point. That's why I'm also pursuing Journalism, as a means to an end.
As a writer, I'm always open to criticism and being wrong. This has been vital for me to perfect my techniques and even now I'm still doing it and getting feedback. To be fair, I'm also the type that hates leaving things half-finished, and I think I bit off far more than I can chew. Even if it takes me years to do so, I'm determined to write the Tales of Aurelia series and get it published, one way or another.view less
