To inspire the forward movement of the whole is a gigantic undertaking, but like most impossible dreams where faith is a must the reward is eternal.I was born in the year of 1975 December 24th in Queens, New York. My mother’s name is Deirdre Love who gave birth to me with no pain, literally “NO pain” (her words) at the age of 19. My father’s name is Michael Jon Haylock who was born in Belize and came to this country at the age of 12.Around the age of 11 my mother moved me and my younger brother Adam to Norfolk, VA for a kind off a new start, and to escape the crack heavy culture prevalent in New York. My father fell victim to the Reagan era crack epidemic my mother however rose to the occasion displaying the characteristics of the queen that she is.I am not sure if it was the alternative taste in music I learned from my pops or the “The Last Poets” albums my Godmother Karen played in her home, but I would begin to imagine myself as an agent of change. I would play with pens the way most boys my age played the Nintendo – these pens where like portals into other worlds that I created with vivid imagination and creativity to replace the reality of my life. My life wasn’t a terrible life it was just that I was restless with the status quo and the culture that surrounded me. It seems it was my soul that would scream change, and in my dreams I didn’t visualize myself on the sidelines of this revolution ... in this revolution that I envisioned I was at the forefront.“I fell in love with words...the words articulated from preachers, and the words from rappers...the words of actors, I just love words”view less
