The innocence of self-importance turns into the smell of burning earth, the deafening sounds of artillery, machines and aircraft; humans screaming for life as they inhale their last breath on earth, heavy with the smell of another human being's burning flesh. Cries for peace linger in the aftermath then silence falls heavy on the char of mother earth. For me, to translate war into words turned into an amazing, emotional roller coaster ride from the first page. Tears carried my fingers, one by one pressing out the words to paint a picture of people sacrificing their one chance at life. Thank you seems so insignificant; nevertheless, thank you to all who have served in the military for this beloved country called the United States of America. Kathie Lee, U. S.
