By 14, he was flying model rockets, learning to program on IBM mainframes, and taking flying lessons.
His creativity and innovative spirit led to writing stories for his friends' amusement and a humor column in his school newspaper. Entering college, he initially majored in journalism at North Carolina State University; however, he found his forte and a steady income in engineering and technology. Retiring in 2010, he discovered his passion for creating science fiction and storytelling.
Details matter to Tom; his creed is simple and true, "Small things matter, they cause great things." He spends hours researching and testing concepts, even using Kerbal Space Program to test the spacecraft in his storytelling, employing science rather than magic to make his novels more exciting. He also draws on his own experience in nuclear power, research centers, laboratories, and two decades of IT management, allowing him to see first-hand the impacts of technology on society.
Combining his research and experience, he developed a blueprint for crafting, a story out of time, originally a 1500-page manuscript now broken into novels, "The Archives of Atlanteas" series introduces the hidden nation of Atlanteas and the family connections between Aaron Grayman, the Rödd religion of Atlanteas, and the century-old Shadow Guard secret police who the Rödd have been in conflict with for decades. The story goes deeper, examining faith, hope, manipulation, morals, and loss, questioning traditional values of morality and what makes life. The Atlantean civilization confronts many aspects of life in the present while two centuries in the past, in an action-adventure. Each aspect of the series is a creation of reality and imagination, with a bit of actual science.
