The Army taught him how to survive in our nation’s undeclared war ...view moreBorn in 1945, Dave Wright grew up in Northern California. He was drafted after dropping out of college in 1967. The Army taught him how to survive in our nation’s undeclared war in Vietnam. Thus began Dave’s transformation from innocence to hardened combat veteran. He received the Bronze and Silver Stars while walking point in the dense, steaming jungle.
He completed college in 1973 with a degree in civil engineering and is finishing his career as City Engineer in Southern Oregon.
Surviving Vietnam, and burying its effects with denial, anger, and isolation meant Dave and his family suffered with PTSD for the next thirty years. He now speaks at high schools about his experiences and the slow process of recovery.view less
