Dr. Chivers was born in Georgia and spent much of his life in New York writing poetry and administering medical aid to the poor. He was well acquainted with Edgar Allen Poe.
Mr. Poe on more than one occasion asked him to join efforts with him in the publication of “The Penn Magazine” (later known as “The Stylus”).
You might also say that Mr. Martin’s love for adventure comes from a family tradition. His Great, Great Grandfather, Solomon Robbins, and his wife, Mary, were the first settlers in Coosa County, Alabama. They were noted for their fairness and friendship with the native Americans.
Mr. Martin’s father, Rev. Judson R. Martin, was a well known minister, and his mother, Frances Susan Rutland Martin, was an accomplished pianist. He has three sisters and one brother. All of them had careers in education. He now lives in Mobile, Alabama, with his wife, Linda Isaacs Martin, who is a registered nurse and a member of the Alabama Hall of Fame for her work with senior citizens. Their daughter, Belinda Frances Martin, works in New York as a freelance photographer and stylist.
He graduated from Perry County High School in Marion, Alabama. Mr. Martin has an Associate of Arts Degree from the University of West Alabama, a Master’s Degree from Auburn University, an Educational Specialist Degree from the University of Alabama, and further studies with St. Mary’s College, the University of North Carolina, and the University of South Alabama.
Mr. Martin taught school at the high school and college levels and is presently teaching at the International Language School in Mobile, AL.
Among some of the things that are most important to him are his Faith, Family, Friends, and Country. He has made mission trips to over twenty different countries on five continents. And he and his wife have traveled to many other countries. In addition to travel, Mr. Martin enjoys sports, listening to many different kinds of music, singing and playing his guitar, and helping others.
He has held responsible positions of leadership in the field of education and his church. And he has received recognition for his accomplishments from a variety of sources.view less
