He was educated at a Jesuit College in Sunderland, after which he served in the Royal Air Force, Later, he too went into mining, working as a field research officer investigating the causes of pneumoconiosis, the miners lung disease. After the research was completed, he moved into the synthethic fibres industry with IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES. There he studied industrial chemistry, and working in product development, progressed steadily through the management structure.
Following ICIs sell-off of their synthetic fibres interests, Peter travelled abroad to join ARAMCO, the Saudi Arabian oil giant. This change of profession initiated a twenty two year career as a Corrosion Engineer. During this period Peters work took him to locations as far apart as NORWAY, NIGERIA, THE MIDDLE EAST, and the PEOPLES REPUBLIC OF CHINA.
Recently retired from an engineering post in SYRIA, Peter has started writing and TO A GREATER GLORY is the first novel of this new career. His second book entitled PICK YOUR OWN STRAWBERRIES, based on the experiences he gained in his international travels, is being compiled. A third book, I KNEW MRS MINIVER is also underway.
His chosen pen name Peter Gartland is adopted from his maternal Grandfather, who migrated to England in the latter years of the nineteenth century.view less
