It was the same year he started helping his neighbors scrape and paint their hotel—the Summer Sands in Wrightsville Beach, North Carolina, where he fell in love with the ocean.
When he was drafted from college in the sixties to become a reporter and editor for the US Army, he continued to write about the sea when he was stationed near Nha Trang beach, Vietnam. Upon returning to Marshall University, some of his work was published in the university’s poetry journal, Etc. He completed his undergraduate and graduate degrees at MU and went on to complete a doctorate at the University of Kentucky, and his first ten books were textbooks, two of which were national best sellers in the nonprofit sector, before returning to his passion of writing poetry. Sea Change is his third book of poetry. Roger is a professor for the Nonprofit Leadership Studies program at Murray State University. He lives in Murray, Kentucky, with his critters, Summer and Sandy. His son, Clint; daughter-in-law, Annika; and grandkids, Ryder and Riley, live in Nevada.view less
