Zahiruddin Khurshid was born in a small

s...view moreZahiruddin Khurshid was born in a small
town called Kamptee in India on February 8,
1947. Immediately after the Higher Secondary
School Certifi cate (HSSC) exam and at the age of
sixteen years, he migrated to Pakistan along with
his family. Khurshid continued his studies and
completed the two-year master’s degree program
in library science at the University of Karachi in
1971 and stood second on the merit list. He worked
briefl y as a medical records librarian in the Jinnah
Postgraduate Medical Center and moved to a
college library in 1973. He left for Saudi Arabia to join the King Fahd
University of Petroleum & Minerals (KFUPM) Library in Dhahran in 1974,
where he worked for more than thirty-six years. In between, Khurshid went
to the United States to get a second degree in Master of Science in Library
and Information Science (MSLIS) from Pratt Institute, Brooklyn, New
York. At the KFUPM Library, he received regular promotions and fi nally
became senior manager in 1993. His subject areas of interests and expertise
are cataloging and library automation, and he has published widely in
reputed library and information science journals, including several Journal
Citation Reports (JCR) -ranked journals. He won the Best Paper Award
at the Special Libraries Association–Arabian Gulf Chapter conference,
held in Abu Dhabi, in 2000. He is currently retired in Euless, Texas, but
keeps himself busy in reading and writing. His two research papers and
autobiography are going to be published in 2013.view less
